Happy Saturday everyone! Last week I talked about where my idea originated, today I would like to talk about how I have acted upon it.
So sophomore year I came up with the idea, last year I decided to create a recycling club at BHS. Initially, it had a very rocky start. At the first callout meeting I held, there was a single person that showed up. I was worried that everything was already going to come to an end. But things quickly turned around. With the help of my friends and peers, we grew to 9 members in less than a week! This was huge because the club could finally start.
You may be wondering what is done in recycling club. Well, we started off with cleaning the schools recycling bins and then put them into the classrooms in the high school. From there we collect what’s inside once a week as well as sort it. Initially, we only collected aluminum cans and plastic bottles, but towards the end of the year we started collecting paper/cardboard.
After everything has been collected and sorted, we decide on what is done with it. The aluminum cans are sold to OmniSource in South Bend(which we have already sold 344 pounds of cans!), while the plastic bottles and paper are given to Señora Kaseweter who helps us with the recycling process. However before we hand over the plastic bottles, we first take the bottle caps off and hold onto them. The reason being that we want to make a bench for the school using recycled plastic.
I would like to thank all of the members of last years recycling club as well as the incoming members for this upcoming year. I would also like to thank Mrs. Reed(a.k.a Mom) for being our teacher sponsor as well as Señora Kaseweter for helping us with the process of recycling.
Thank you all for reading and the support!
P.S. Stay tuned within the next coming weeks as there are big things to come that I’m very excited for and can’t wait to announce!
