Meli-D Creations

Meli-D Creations Home Decor Hi I'm Melissa Armas, owner and designer of Meli-D Creations. We are a family owned business specializing in sustainable furniture and home decor.

Meli-D Creations was born in the summer of 2009. In the beginning I created handmade, one-of-a-kind jewelry while working a full-time job in the manufactured housing industry for 13 years. I had always had a passion for home decor and had become a home stagger for the company I worked for. It triggered something in me that wanted more. I decided to expand my small business in 2012 by offering sust

ainable furniture and interior decorations. It was one of the best business decisions that I have ever made. In the beginning of 2014, I took a leap of faith and decided to leave my full-time job to pursue my passion and I haven't regretted it one bit. My husband Ed also works with me, aside from his full-time job, building the most amazing furniture pieces to meet our customer’s wants and needs. He also helps out with repairs to existing furniture that either we have taken in or that belongs to a customer. His expertise and proficient craftsmanship insures Meli-D customers are getting a quality product that they can enjoy for years to come. I absolutely love being part of home make over. Please contact us if you would like a quote or have a piece custom built. Our mission is to provide a quality product at an affordable price by actively contributing to sustainability. To us, that means using recycled/reclaimed wood or second hand goods, giving them a new life and meeting the needs of our customers while respecting the environment. We hope to hear from you soon.

I had the pleasure of staging one of our models at our So Cal locations this last week. It was so fun sourcing items for this project. When I sent the pics to my boys to show them what their mom was working on they asked me if it was a real house. Lol Of course now they want me to make our house look like this. Guess they haven’t quite learned that white couches, kids and pets do not mix. Next stop, my old stomping grounds Chandler, AZ. Can’t wait!

I have never been more nervous about painting as I was yesterday. While I loved the Chantilly Lace white wall I was getting pulled to jump out of my comfort zone. I went with Tricorn Black…for now. We’re going to wait and see what the. We couches look like with it and if we feel the Urban Bronze will look better then I guess I’ll be painting again 🤷🏻‍♀️ For now I’m going to enjoy this view.

It’s been quite a year of renovating and building for House of Meli-D. Lots of lessons and techniques learned that I only wish I would have shared more of with you. Thank you so much for your continued support. Wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas!

Since we took our fireplace and mantle out to put the new kitchen in, I was at a loss as to where I was going to hang the stockings this year. Thank goodness for cool finds at thrift stores. The minute I saw this vintage coat rack I knew this is what I wanted to use it for.

Ta-da! I give you the back of the island. If you followed along on the progress of this kitchen build you’ll remember the cabinets we used from the didn’t have a finished backer on them. So, I’m true House of Meli-D fashion we made our own. We decided to go with this simple yet sophisticated look to tie in with our feature wall in our dining room. I’m sure we will eventually paint it down the road but for now we are loving it white.

This little cabinet has been one of my favorite pieces in my home. Since we’ve remodeled she just was going with what we’ve done. Her red wood tones were sticking out like a sore thumb. So I busted out the General Finishes Black gel stain only to be surprised that it wasn’t actually making it black 🤷🏻‍♀️ BUT surprisingly it matches our other furniture so much better and we love it! If you have a beloved piece instead of getting rid of it just make it over. You might be surprised with the outcome.

Ta da! Yes, the kitchen is done. Yes I know, I didn’t share any behind the scene stuff along the way but that’s because I let the gram become a distraction. I wanted our kitchen to have my full attention and I was kind of under crunch time to get it done since we hosted our first Thanksgiving. We love it and we are so happy with all of the choices we made. We did choose black for the backsplash and when the tile arrived it was showing up more grey. I literally freaked out but once we got it on the walls it totally worked for us. This is by far our favorite kitchen remodel to date.

Happy October. I have officially used my paint sprayer for two projects now and I don’t think I’ll be hand painting anything for a while. It’s crazy how one day you can go from terrified to try something to being confident in using it. I made these nightstands over and then decided to keep them for our room. We’ve had the chunky 3 drawer nightstands for way too long and it was just time for a change.

What is it that intimidates you? For me, as silly as it sounds, it’s a paint sprayer. Well it was until today. I’ve been wanting to overcome my fear of using one for some time and today I finally did it! I finally got our Adirondack chairs sprayed and ready for fire pit season.

I have watched so many people use one and they make it look so easy. I don’t know if it’s because I tend to become overzealous when I use one or that I’m just missing something. But I can finally check it off of the list and I am no longer afraid to use one.
Whatever it is that you’re afraid to do today is your day. Go out there and overcome that fear. You never know until you just jump in and do it right?

Have you done the old file cabinet makeover yet? I’m sure you will now. Metal is one of the elements that I wanted to pull into our backyard. When I saw my friend Karla make one over last week I knew this was the perfect project for what I wanted to incorporate.
I lucked out and got both of these cabinets for free! Yes free! I painted them with a mix of Tricorn Black and baking soda to give them texture. I’m sure the weather will create some rust but that’s ok with me. I just love them! Now the question is should I get like a dozen more to create a retaining wall out of them 🤔

Before and after of phase 2 is officially complete minus the fireplace part that still needs to be taken out 😂

We got a lot done on the kitchen today which I’ll share soon but after pressure washing the deck this week and moving furniture around I’m so happy with the new layout. This is where you’ll find me watching the sunsets for a while.
