Our Mission: Is to provide the most effective, efficient and reliable Canine Teams. We vow to work as hard as necessary to afford the Agencies and the Handlers the opportunity to leave here confident and prepared to work out in the real world. K-9 Specialized Training and Consulting was founded by Law Enforcement Sergeant David Dorn (active). K-9 Specialized Training and Consulting is a full service K-9 Training Facility where Law Enforcement Agencies go for highly trained Detection Dogs. K9STAC recognized the need for modern, progressive and up to date techniques associated with initial canine selection, training, and initial Canine Handler selection, training, and practical application of canine team deployments and supervision. K9STAC has established several training courses for Law Enforcement Agencies based on those recognized needs. K9STAC utilizes the world renowned “On Target” Detection Dog method. With this method and founder David Dorn’s 15 years of canine training and experience, canines are selected, pre-trained and reliability tested, easily adapting to a new handler. ABOUT DAVID DORN

David has worked in Law Enforcement for over 18 years. Over 14 years he has worked for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, where he handled, trains and supervises as a Sergeant in the K-9 Unit. David implemented the Sheriff’s Department K-9 Unit in 1998.

Co-founders David and Angela Dorn say their facility is designed as a community hub where multiple trainers can use the space to teach classes ranging from the basics of obedience to agility lessons.

The Dorn’s say their individual team—K9 STAC—trains family pets in addition to working dogs through their local and state contracts, including with Mount Rushmore.

David Dorn

Class: “Normalization of Risk”, In Explosive Detection Dog Handling

David Dorn is a retired medical sergeant from the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department. David has over 30 years of K9 experience and worked in Law Enforcement for over 18 years.

Today, he owns and operates K-9 Specialized Training and Consulting at his facility in South Dakota, where he and his wife continue to train and consult several agencies in initial and advanced detection dog and handler training, implementing, managing and maintaining their agencies K9 Units.

David has thousands of hours in basic and advanced Peace Officer training and thousands of hours in basic and advanced Police Service Dog, NDD & EDD Handler Training. David has participated in over 10,000 individual canine searches in the field, continuing to work a EDD & NDD. David was a member of the SFSD Emergency Services Team, Holds a California POST Intermediate Certificate, is a California POST Certified Canine Team Evaluator, and a TSA Cargo Third Party Team Evaluator, as well as other Association Certifier and Competition Judge.
