🌟 Ever leave a board meeting wondering, “Who was supposed to handle that?”

That’s usually a sign that roles or next steps weren’t clear enough.

A simple habit can help: before the meeting ends, make sure everyone knows who owns each action item and when it needs to happen. Then follow up. âś…

Clear responsibilities help keep good ideas from becoming forgotten notes in meeting minutes.

What does your board use to keep action items from falling through the cracks?

đź’ˇ Great leadership isn't about never making mistakes. It's about what we do when things don't go as planned.

For association leaders, acknowledging a setback is important, but the real opportunity comes from what happens next. Are we asking the tough questions? Creating space for honest conversations? Taking meaningful steps to prevent the same challenges from happening again?

Strong organizations aren't built on perfection. They're built on accountability, open communication, and a willingness to learn and improve.

This insightful article from Associations Now reminds us that how we respond to challenges can make all the difference.

How does your organization turn setbacks into opportunities for growth?

🎀 Behind every pink ribbon is a person. A mother, a father, a sister, a friend, a colleague. Someone whose life has been forever changed by breast cancer.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and today, October 13, we also recognize Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day. đź’—

Our hearts are with those facing a diagnosis, those navigating treatment, survivors carrying their experiences with them, families standing beside their loved ones, and those grieving someone they've lost.

We honor your courage, your struggles, your stories, and the moments that aren't always seen.

At Q & A Business Solutions, we believe awareness should inspire something greater: compassion, support, research, and meaningful action.

đź’• Check in on someone. Encourage conversations about breast health. Be there for someone who needs you.

Because behind every diagnosis is a life that matters, and no one should have to face breast cancer alone.

🌟 What makes for a better board decision? Sometimes it’s hearing the perspective no one else has brought up yet.

Every board member comes to the table with different experiences and ideas. Giving people room to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and respectfully disagree can uncover things the group might otherwise miss. đź’ˇ

The goal isn’t agreement on everything. It’s making sure the conversation is thoughtful enough to reach a well-informed decision.

How does your board make sure everyone has a chance to be heard?

âť“ How can boards make better decisions and bring in fresh ideas?

One simple answer: make room for different perspectives.

When the same voices always shape the conversation, boards can miss things. Different backgrounds, experiences, and ways of thinking can surface better questions and help a group look at a challenge from more than one angle. đź’ˇ

That doesn’t mean every discussion has to end in agreement. It means people should feel comfortable contributing something different.

Age doesn’t always tell us how someone wants to participate.

That’s an interesting takeaway from this Associations Now article on new MCI Group research. Instead of relying heavily on labels like Gen Z or Millennial, associations may learn more by looking at members’ motivations, behaviors, and preferred ways of engaging.

Some people want to observe before jumping in. Others prefer a small-group conversation. Some are ready to contribute, present, mentor, or lead.

Those preferences don’t always fit neatly into an age bracket.

For associations, that’s a good reason to pay attention to what members actually do and where they’re already connecting.

✨ : IFMA St. Louis

If you work in facility management, you already know how much happens behind the scenes to keep buildings, workplaces, and operations running smoothly.

IFMA St. Louis has built a community around the people doing that work. With about 180 members across the metro area, the chapter offers education, facility tours, networking, career resources, and support for professional credentials like CFM, FMP, and SFP.

What we especially like is the mix of professional development and real connection. Members can learn together, tour facilities, build relationships, take part in industry events, and get involved in ways that go well beyond sitting through another meeting.

🌟 Want to strengthen your board? Start with the basics that actually matter.

Good governance usually comes down to a few habits that are easy to overlook when things get busy:

▪️ Keep communication open and honest
▪️ Make sure everyone understands the priorities
▪️ Be clear about roles and responsibilities
▪️ Stay curious about what’s changing in your industry

Boards don’t need to complicate things to be effective. Clear expectations and good communication can go a long way.

What’s one practice that has helped your board work better?

What gets someone to join an association today, and more importantly, what gets them to stay?

This piece from Associations Now shares some interesting findings. Membership growth has slowed, but associations are seeing better engagement when they get more personal.

That can look like reaching out directly, inviting members to programs that actually fit their interests, asking for feedback, and being much clearer about what members are getting from the relationship.

One number that stood out: 42% of associations surveyed are using personal outreach as part of their engagement efforts.

There is a lot of technology available to help with membership marketing, but people still want to feel like people, not names in a database.
