Buildings Efficiency Resources (BER) is a provider of technical, educational, and Quality Assurance services for Home Energy Raters (HERS) and building performance professionals. BER (pronounced "Bear") believes in the value of the energy efficient buildings, and is dedicated to providing industry-leading technical and customer support to our clients.

RESNET requires that Providers perform a field quality assurance (QA) review on 1% of a rater’s Confirmed and Sampled ratings each year.⁠
⁠
Scheduling your 1% Field QA early helps ensure availability and avoids the year-end rush, when limited openings could make it harder to get your QA completed in time. Delaying may result in restrictions on submitting new ratings at the start of the following year. ⁠

BER Field QAD Noah Hanley demonstrates how Footnote 75 in Revision 4 of the ENERGY STAR Multifamily Rater Field Checklist (Footnote 74 in Revision 5) applies when a continuous exhaust fan does not meet the 5 ACH target. In these situations, 50 CFM of continuous exhaust may be used as an alternative, provided the exhaust fan or intake grille is located within 10 feet of the edge of the range.

A LEED for Homes Provider organization is the liaison between the USGBC and the project team, coordinating closely with the Green Rater from start to finish. As your LEED-H Provider, BER will:⁠

This Earth Day, we are proud to be part of an industry that is actively shaping a more sustainable future. The building performance industry plays a critical role in improving energy efficiency, conserving resources, and creating healthier homes for communities across the country.

The impact is real and you can see it in the numbers. According to RESNET’s 2025 Annual Report, more than 420,000 homes nationwide received a HERS rating, helping avoid 1.4 million tons of carbon emissions and saving 444 million gallons of water.

BER’s Natasha Brooks conducts ventilation testing on a 134-unit multifamily building, demonstrating how to test the fan flow on a HRV using pressure ports and interpreting the unit’s label to match pressure readings with airflow.
