Here’s why this wasn’t the disaster I thought it would be.

✨ Step 1: We talked about it days before. No surprises.
✨ Step 2: We let her be part of the “goodbye” plan.
✨ Step 3: We already had good sleep habits, routines & schedule
✨ Step 4: She picked out a binky blanket to cuddle with in place of her binky
✨ Step 5: We had a plan and stayed consistent — even when it got hard.

And guess what?
She did amazing.

By the 3rd night she slept through the night and went to sleep with minimal fuss. The 4th night no fuss at bedtime!

Sometimes our kids handle change better than we do. 💛

If you’re about to start the binky break, you’ve got this!

Comment below how you were successful with weaning your child from the binky.

💤 “Sleep training win: tiny human asleep, parents thriving.”

This little guy and his Mama nailed sleep training!

👏🏻 His 1st night he went down fully awake and fell asleep in 13 minutes!

✅ He now has predictable naps that last 1.5-2 hours

☀️ He’s no longer waking at 5/5:30 am and wakes up happy and content until 7 am!

Success in this story came from nailing timing of naps and bedtime and his Mama being 100% consistent with the plan!

Not all babies respond this quickly! However, with a plan in place, the right timing and dedication from parents, BIG changes are made in just a few days!

Side - hold in a side carry position
Sway - this motion mimics the feeling in the womb
Shush - use a sound machine/shushing to help baby slip into that deep sleep
Suck - non-nutritive sucking triggers a calming reflex & pacifiers help reduce the risk of SIDS

Get your baby sleeping 10x better when you teach them how to fall asleep all by themselves.

Your baby is needing YOU to help them fall asleep at night.

When a baby is helped to sleep at the start of the night, they will often wake up looking for you to help them fall back asleep again. A sleep cycle for babies overnight is typically every 2-3 hours.

Helping your baby to fall asleep by feeding or rocking/holding them is called a sleep association. If you continue this pattern, your baby will continue to keep waking up every few hours out of habit.

You want to start teaching your baby how to fall asleep ALL on their own. But how?

The solution is to teach independent sleep skills using a sleep training method that aligns to your cry tolerance and beliefs. Cry It Out does not need to be the method of choice! I have many methods to choose from and will always work with you to help you figure out what works best for you and your family!

When a baby learns this skill, they can connect sleep cycles throughout the night and not require the feeding/rocking to go back to sleep. If it is still a goal of yours (or nutritionally necessary) to keep feeding(s) into your program, I will teach you how to manage that too!

9/10 clients reach out to me because of multiple night wakings due to putting their baby down asleep at the start of the night. One of the 1st goals that we achieve together (if this is an issue) is getting your baby to learn independent sleep. This is typically achieved within a few days where babies are putting themselves to sleep with minimal or no crying!! This is my favorite part because then Mama finally gets her alone time back!!

It is absolutely possible for YOUR baby to go from needing you to put them down fully asleep to them calmly and peacefully putting themselves to sleep! You do not need to sacrifice your free time or your own sleep to constantly help your baby fall back asleep.

DM me SLEEP NOW and I will get you set up for a free sleep assessment call! On this 15-30 minute call I will dive into your child’s sleep needs and tell you HOW I help my clients achieve success within 3 weeks or less!

FALSE!

Researchers from the Journal of Pediatrics have found that sleep training your baby provides NO negative outcomes regarding parent-infant bonding! There can be so many emotions associated with sleep training your child. Parents can even feel like it is a selfish act, that they are doing this for themselves because they aren’t sleeping and it affects so many parts of their life.

In my opinion and experience as a sleep consultant, I think sleep training only ENHANCES your relationship with your baby. The number of parents who have told me their baby’s behavior changed after working with me is endless. If your baby is sleeping better, that means you are sleeping better, which means you can be a better Mom, spouse, colleague, friend, daughter, etc.

So if you ask me, “Am I going to harm my baby by sleep training them?” My answer to you is always NO because it is backed by science and experience from my kids & client results.

Here are some excerpts from my previous clients to prove my point:

“Thank you so much! This has really been life changing” Mom of 7 month old

“I think I’ve been in fight or flight mode for a really long time between postpartum, no sleep and just life in general. I’m finally feeling like myself again. I am ETERNALLY thankful to you!” Mom of 2 year old

“Omg Catherine, I cant even believe this, I just put her down in the crib and she didn’t even whine or cry when I put her in.” Mom of 1 year old

“We are so happy! Let the good times keep rolling! Today, she took all 3 naps so that was new.” Mom of 4 month old

If all of this sounds all too familiar and you want to hear more about what it is like to work with me. DM or comment below SLEEP CALL to sign up for your free 15 minute sleep assessment!

One of the biggest challenges my client face is that they can’t get ANYTHING done during the day! Thats because their babies nap is lasting 30, maybe 45 minutes if you’re lucky. And half the time you’re having to hold your baby/rock them/drive them around or push them in a stroller to get them to fall and stay asleep.

While the baby snuggles can feel really great at times, it can also be very exhausting and over stimulating for some. If you are loving the snuggles and all the contact naps, then this post isn’t for you.

If you are really needing a break from contact napping or extending your babies nap then follow my 3 step process below!👇🏻

1️⃣ Place your baby down AWAKE (4 months and older) for ALL sleep! Your baby needs to learn how to fall asleep independently! You can start practicing with putting them down drowsy and giving them 3-5 minutes to work it out on their own. A baby will wake up from a sleep cycle during a nap anywhere from 30-45 minutes. If they’ve been helped to sleep at the start of the nap, they will be looking for you to help them get back to sleep again.

2️⃣ Make sure your babies sleep environment is conducive to sleeping during the day. This means pitch black room and use of a sound machine placed across the room to drown out any noise. Ideal temperature of the room is between 68 and 72 degrees.

3️⃣ For babies on a 3 nap schedule, the 1st 2 naps need to be at least 1 hour long to be considered restorative. On a 2 nap schedule, we want both naps to be at least 1 hour long. To do this, practice CRIB HOUR! This is keeping your baby in the crib for a full hour from the time you first put them down. Choose a sleep method you are comfortable with (see my sleep methods post) until that full hour is up.

Eventually, your baby will learn how to link sleep cycles and start sleeping OVER an hour! 🤯 Now you can go to the bathroom, workout, shower and start feeling like yourself again!!

I love helping Mom’s achieve these goals! In my opinion, the length of a babies nap is just as important for Mom as it is for baby! 💪 😴

Drop a 💪 if you enjoy working out while baby sleeps! I know I do!

SHORE GOOD SLEEPER!!

Justine from reached out to me for help with her 3 year old! This little girl was rising early (5 am!!), leaving her bed and her room and waking up multiple times during the night!

In just a few nights, she was back to her normal schedule of sleeping through the night and sleeping or resting until 6:30/7:00 am!! Everyone in their family is now getting better sleep!!!

Toddlers require 3 things to come together for the plan to work effectively!

1. Timing! Timing of naps and bedtime is vital for any child. Making sure your child gets down before they are overtired is absolutely necessary to avoid night wakings, early risings and skipped naps!

2. Consistency: After you choose a sleep method, you need to make sure you are being 100% consistent with implementing it! This allows your child to understand what is expected of them and helps to teach them to fall asleep independently and stay asleep!

3. Communication: This is absolutely KEY for toddlers! Even at 18 months, you’re children can understand A LOT! By using positive speech around sleep it really helps get them excited for sleep!

Give Justine a follow for amazing mental health advice! She is a psychotherapist and anxiety treatment specialist! Parents mental health can be greatly impacted with sleep deprivation. There is also a lot of parent guilt when going through the process. I try and support my clients in any way possible and provide them with lots of encouragement and support through the sleep training process. A licensed mental health therapist, like Justine, can help provide support and tips on dealing with things like anxiety, guilt and depression due to lack of sleeping. I am a strong advocate for mental health services and helping my clients in any way possible!

Daylight Savings is November 5th!

☀️ If you already have a solid sleeper, you don’t have too much to worry about!

If waking before 7 am:
Bump naps & bedtime later by 45 minutes on Sat 11/4.

If your child is waking between 7/7:30:
Bump their naps & bedtime later by 30 minutes on 11/4. They will likely wake slightly earlier on Sunday, but should adjust to their normal schedule.

If you want to do a more gradual approach, start bumping naps and bedtime by 10-15 minutes on Wednesday/Thursday. By Saturday, your little ones bedtime should be about 30 minutes later than normal.

On Sunday and moving forward, expose your child and yourself to natural sunlight in the morning and early afternoon. This will help reset their internal clock. Continue with their normal schedule based on the time on the ⏰! It may take a few days for your child to adjust!

TIMING & CONSISTENCY!

I teach all of my clients about these crucial elements!

It is vital you are getting your baby/toddler down to sleep during the appropriate sleep windows.

All of my programs are based on the science behind sleep and nap and bedtimes are recommended when melatonin (sleepy hormone) is the highest!

Being 100% consistent with your chosen sleep method is what allows your child to LEARN how to sleep better! Check out my earlier post on sleep methods to see what aligns best with your cry tolerance!
