Would you tell them something simple like, "No one actually has it fully figured out - don't steal your own joy by comparing your reality to someone else's highlight reel"?
Something more heart-centered like, "Call your family more often"?
Or maybe something that applies to every area of life like, "Fail fast and fail publicly" to uncover your truest talents?

That’s a wrap on HUB International’s Texas Leadership Summit 2026 for the Smalley Consulting team!
We loved this year’s theme: "Leading with Heart (& Spine)."
It was a perfect blend of high-energy insights and practical strategies for balancing genuine empathy with real accountability in the workplace.
A few highlights from our experience:
✨ We gained incredible perspectives on culture, mindset, and performance psychology from phenomenal speakers like Dr. Rick Perea, Barb Guzman and Libby Gill. Getting to step away from the desks as a team to learn, recharge, and even squeeze in some in-car manicures (287 was a slow roll for a good stretch) and selfies!
We made it back to Wise County with full hearts (and spines!) and a ton of fresh ideas to implement along with confirmation on some things SC is already doing well. We’re excited to bring this renewed energy to our clients in both Learning & Development and Creative Solutions.

⛳️ Teeing off a new year of leadership growth!

Because it was hotter than the surface of the sun outside, the C**t Midstream team chipped in for a cooler spot and headed to Broligans Golf in Weatherford to kickoff our newest Leadership Development cohort.

It was a tee-rific day filled with plenty of laughter, solid conversation, the occasional great golf shot, and zero sub-par energy.

When we asked what they hope to gain from our year together, this bright group of guys didn't slice around the big issues. They brought incredible, actionable insights to the table:

🏌️‍♂️Delegation: Knowing when to pass the club and trust team members with the shot.
🗣️ Better Communication: Keeping everyone aligned on the same fairway.
💬 Saying the Hard Thing: Having the courage to play through the tough conversations and rough patches.
🧠 Deeper Self-Awareness: Reading the green better to support their teams effectively.

We can’t wait to see how this crew irons out their skills and drives real impact over the next year!

Days like today are special!

Ashley has been a Bridgeport girl since second grade, so investing in this precious gem 💎 of a community is near and dear to her heart.

Today, we served the 🍎 Principals and other department leaders of Bridgeport ISD 📚 with a motivational leadership talk to kick off the school year. We celebrated wins and identified calibrations that will give this year a FRESH start!

AND

💼 We served the business leaders of the community at the Bridgeport Chamber of Commerce August Luncheon 🤝 sharing about three breakdowns in unity for businesses—leadership, communication, and branding/digital footprint.

Thanks to both entities for inviting us to give back to a town that has given us so much!!

At SC, no two weeks are ever remotely the same...and we love it! Last week held many predictable things that we cherish, like coaching clients and another engagement with our friends Hamilton Form Company. However, it was the out of the ordinary things that made the week special:

😵‍💫 LOTS (did we say lots?) of prep work for this Friday's Kingdom in Action AUGUST 2026 Lunch & Learn! Seriously, between social media work, message prep, volunteer coordination, and logistics, there was easily 30+ hours spent getting ready for our return from summer break.
✏️ We had the first day of school for the Smalley kids. We are grateful for coaching clients who were flexible with their schedules so the first day of school traditions could remain in place.
🎙 We recorded a killer episode of the Faith at Work pod on the balance between productivity and rest. Is it too soon to tell you that you need to listen to Season 3 Episode 8 when it is released? We don't think so.
🎒 Karleigh packed up half her office to work remotely.
👧 We had a sweet little friend stop buy unexpectedly and a game of patty cake and some slinky play was in order. She also taught us a great little diddy about a no-no square that was a show stopper.
📷 The vintage camera that Karleigh has been longing for showed up at the resale shop around the corner and then showed up as a surprise in Karleigh's office. 🙂
⚡️ The two youngest Smalleys accompanied Ashley to show support at the One Hope Village boujee bingo fundraiser. They all got the memo that it was 80's themed. Only one was brave enough to participate!
⚾ A GT kid started his first season of T-Ball, he's going to run fast, maybe hit the ball and hopefully touch at least one of the bases.
🎊 The Dad-GT had a birthday! Can you believe he's only 30?!😉
🥚 The GT chickens (according to Wade's dinner prayer last night, he made sure to thank Jesus) finally started *pooping eggs*. The kid loves scrambled eggs but isn't super crazy about chickens. Thankfully they aren't freeloading anymore - he decided they can stay now.

Last week will be hard to top, but we are ready to see what this week holds!

🎉 Happy National Sons and Daughters Day!

Between Ashley's 3 daughters and Katie's 2 daughters and 1 son, our office has 6 incredible reasons to celebrate! Raising kids is a true lifetime of love and chaos, but above all, they are the absolute greatest blessing. 😜 Wouldn't trade the crazy ride for anything!

Paper airplanes, training exercise, or both?

Last week was a 🌪whirlwind of meaningful, creative work (that was even fun)!

Here are the highlights:
- A workshop on teamwork that pointed out the importance of preparation, discipline, and competence. And yes, we used ✈paper airplane assembly at HamiltonForm to prove our point!
- Coached a real estate broker, a gas plant manager, three IT managers, and an IT director to be better leaders
- Refined the SC purpose statement (we stir people up to love and good works in the marketplace, if you're curious)
- Talked about the way stress impacts professionalism with a group of new managers at JTaylor
- Put in lots of hours on the next semester of Kingdom in Action lunches, including a surprise for our second birthday in 🎉October
- Got organized for the production of Season 3 of the Faith at Work podcast
- Even made a little progress on that book we are going to finish one of these days
- We took some time to work outside and get the creative juices flowing (and also some sweat, it's just shy of "surface of the sun" temperature outside)
-Saved an awesome piece of vintage furniture (high-five for whoever knows what it is)

Oh...and because it was the last week of summer, we continued to run the kids of the company all over God's creation. Some of us worked from a trampoline park booth, and at least four volleyball scrimmages were attended.

Here's to all the working parents on the last leg of summer...it's almost over!
