Excellent meeting today with Lukka CEO Kiet Tran, Bob Herz and Miklos Vasarhelyi of Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick; the three of us are colleagues at the Rutgers Continuous Auditing & Reporting Lab (CAR LAB), focused on Audit Analytics and data analytics.
We have advised Lukka on regulatory compliance and auditability in the past. From the start Lukka has had a strong focus on regulatory compliance and auditability making them an excellent source for financial blockchain infrastructure.

Happy New Year and Happy ISACA Anniversary to me. 40 years ago I was elected ISACA Global President and Board Chair, it was an honor and a privilege to serve.

You start your career by learning some skills that get you a job, I was a CPA & IT Auditor. But I wanted to run a business enterprise. This stop along the way to CAE-CFO-CEO was an early very valuable advancement. It was hands on – we only had a few very precious staff. Luckily ISACA was and is a very valuable contributor to IT Governance. I say we had the wind at our backs from the growth of IT! That said we made some major strategic decisions – one worldwide organization – not many of those!! Also, we helped launch the IT Security Profession.

To the many ISACA leaders I have come to work with an know – you bring me great joy, and I Thank You for continuing the journey.

This was a gift from ISACA staff with many imbedded stories! I still enjoy pool, do not smoke ci**rs, I won the Copper Clairvoyance Cup in my first year as CAE of Phelps Dodge and yes, I am from NYC and love the capital markets, that is how I won the cup!

It was wonderful to see all my Isaca New Jersey Chapt friends at their Holiday Gala. Great to catch up with old colleagues and meet new generations of IT Governance professionals.
I continue to be amazed at the energy of
ISACA, a testament to the success of the decisions made over the decades. My serving as Chapter President, Global President & Board Chair and Journal Editor in Chief for 20 years, helped me add not only technical knowledge, but also Business Acumen.

Support professionals like ISACA members are in dire need of business training and learn much from volunteering to run the Chapter organizations.

As a former CEO I was glad to provide some training for this Chapter’s Board a few years ago!! They and other Chapters have shown amazing leadership over the decades!

I attended the 69th World Congress on auditing and reporting symposium Friday 11-7-2025. Excellent presentations on AI agents, agentic & MCP agents, blockchain, digital twins, including their use in auditing.
I could see the future through the presentations. There was also a focus on the need for controls and auditing as we expand the use of AI.
the Rutgers Business School - Newark and New Brunswick CAR Lab together with my 20 years as editor of the ISACA Journal and 19 years on the Financial Executives CFO Fintech committee allowed me to stay tuned into advances in financial tech over the decades helping with my day jobs and recently my advisory practice for , Citizens Bank and others.

ISACA New York Metropolitan Chapter celebrated our 50th Anniversary and the highly recognized Wasserman Award in style at the Annual Gala at the Pierre Hotel on Central Park West last night. It was a first-class Gala, recalling the first NYM Gala at the Waldorf=Astoria decades ago.
It was great to see so many past Presidents and Wasserman award recipients. This Chapter is vivacious and has the NYC swagger – winning awards regularly like Best ISACA Chapter. Credit a series of hard-working Presidents and Boards. Thanks to Tim Mortimer and congratulations to long serving Teena Bacchus on beginning her term as President.
NYM's strength is how many pasts’ officers stay very actively involved, and importantly the current officers find their involvement valuable. I was surprised with a “Helping Hands Award” along with 5 other past Presidents. I was clearly the most senior past having served decades ago!!

I was invited, as a past Lily Shue Lifetime Achievement awardee, to the NJ AGM on Tuesday. I was very impressed with the Chapter’s accomplishments and the information on NJ’s proactive approach to computer security from the Keynote speaker Michael Geraghty, New Jersey's CISO.

My Rutgers University CAR Lab colleague Helen Brown Liburd received the 2025 Lily M. Shue Lifetime Achievement Award. I see this award as one of the greatest honors in the field of IT Governance. Why – because the person Lily Shue is a legitimate example of the consummate professional, with lifelong sharing her of knowledge and time.

Flashback June 16, 2006, ringing the opening bell at NASDAC with the CFO association Financial Executives Intl’s (FEI) Fintech committee (CFIT), when I was CEO of FEI. The knowledge gained by serving on CFIT 19 years (2004 to 2023) was extraordinary and supported my advisory practice.

Some relationships last forever, my foundation years at EY helped launch a long and fruitful career. Great to be able to connect at the Ernst and Young New Jersey alumni get together. Met up with Jim Kuo a VP cyber security architect and many other new connections and friends from the past.

Greatly enjoyed sharing my experiences at the ISACA New York Metropolitan Chapter member meeting March 17 2025 at Microsoft's offices in NYC.

ISACA helped early in my career with technical knowledge and shared experiences. Volunteering to help manage the Chapter and then ISACA Global helped immensely with management training and Board experience. Editor of the ISACA Journal for 20 years keep advancing my tech knowledge.
