🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026 🔥
Charge Into Fire Safety™ — Safe Charging Is a Superpower!

Following the recent flooding in Brigantine, we want to remind residents about an important lithium-ion battery hazard.

Last week in West Wildwood, a flood-damaged electric golf cart caught fire, spreading to a nearby home.

⚠️ If an EV, golf cart, e-bike, e-scooter, or other lithium-ion battery device has been exposed to floodwater:

🔋 STOP using it.
🔌 NEVER attempt to charge it.
🏠 Keep it outside and away from your home or other structures.
📞 Contact the manufacturer or a qualified professional for guidance.

Saltwater can cause serious internal battery damage even when there are no visible signs of damage.

🚨 Smoke, heat, popping, hissing, or unusual odors? Stay away and call 911.

When in doubt — don’t use it, don’t charge it, and keep it away from your home.

🔥 Building the Future of Public Safety 🚒

Thank you to Professor Anne Crater and her Freshman and Sophomore ACIT Law & Public Safety Academy students for the opportunity to talk about careers in the fire and EMS service.

Last week we discussed firefighter
training, Fire & EMS responsibilities, the hiring process, career opportunities, and what life is like in a career fire and EMS department.

It was great meeting these students, answering their questions, and sharing our profession with the next generation of public safety professionals.

Thank you, Professor Crater, for the invitation!

FLOODED ROADWAYS – PLEASE USE CAUTION

We are seeing flooded roadways throughout the island. Please help keep everyone safe by staying home and avoiding unnecessary travel.

Never attempt to drive through a flooded roadway. Water may be deeper than it appears, and conditions can change quickly.

Staying off flooded roads helps protect you and allows emergency personnel to respond safely to those who need assistance.

Please stay safe and do not drive through floodwaters.

🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — 25 YEARS LATER 🇺🇸

Yesterday, the Brigantine Fire & EMS Department joined our community in honoring the lives lost and all those forever impacted by the attacks of September 11, 2001.

This year’s ceremony marked the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and the rededication of our memorial, featuring a piece of steel recovered from Ground Zero and donated by the FDNY.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our City officials, guest speakers, first responders, and everyone who joined us for this solemn and meaningful ceremony.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

đźš’ A Night of Leadership & Service

Last night, Brigantine Fire & EMS celebrated the promotion of three members of our Department:

👨‍🚒 Captain William Kuchinsky
👨‍🚒 Captain Thomas Cooker
👨‍🚒 Deputy Chief Kyle Driscoll

All three were born and raised in Brigantine and began their public safety careers with the Brigantine Beach Patrol. Combined, they bring decades of experience and dedication to our community.

Bill has served more than 12 years with the Department, including as a Dive Team member.

Tom, a second-generation firefighter with more than 15 years of service and also a Dive Team diver.

Kyle has more than 25 years with Brigantine Fire & EMS and 13 years with the Beach Patrol, bringing nearly 40 years of public safety experience to his new role.

The reestablishment of the Deputy Chief position, vacant for nearly 30 years, is an important step forward for our Department—strengthening our command structure, accountability, administrative oversight, and continuity of leadership.

Thank you to former Fire Chief and current City Manager Tiger Platt for beginning this process, and to Mayor Sera and City Council for supporting its return.

Most importantly, congratulations to Bill, Tom, and Kyle, and to their families. Their dedication, sacrifice, and commitment to Brigantine have earned them these new responsibilities.

We are proud to have them stepping into these leadership roles and look forward to what they will bring to our Department and community.

Congratulations, Captain Kuchinsky, Captain Cooker, and Deputy Chief Driscoll! 🇺🇸🚒
