As an independent hairdresser renting a chair at Need + Co., you will have the freedom to run your own business while benefiting from the support and amenities of our salon community.

"Job" Overview:

As an independent hairdresser renting a chair at Need + Co., you will be responsible for managing your own clientele, appointments, and business operations. This role requires excellent hairstyling skills, strong customer service abilities, and the ability to maintain a professional and organized workspace.

Key Responsibilities:
Daily Tasks:

- Greet clients warmly and provide exceptional customer service throughout their visit.
- Consult with clients to determine their hairstyling preferences and recommend suitable services.
- Perform haircuts, coloring, styling, and other hair services according to client requests.
- Maintain a clean and organized workstation, including sanitizing tools and equipment between clients.
- Maintain common areas
- Process client payments and manage appointment bookings using salon software or scheduling tools.
- Recommend retail hair care products to clients and assist with sales as needed.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to stay updated on the latest trends and techniques in hairstyling.

Weekly Tasks:

- Clean and organize your workstation and common areas within the salon.
- Stock up on necessary supplies, including hair care products, tools, and accessories.
- Review your appointment schedule for the week and confirm appointments with clients.
- Follow up with clients to gather feedback and address any concerns or issues.
- Participate in collaborative activities within the salon community.

Monthly Tasks:

- Evaluate your business performance and set goals for growth and improvement.
- Review and update your pricing and service menu as needed.
- Plan and schedule any continuing education or training opportunities to enhance your skills.
- Conduct a thorough inventory of your products and supplies and reorder as necessary.
- Promote special offers or events to attract new clients and retain existing ones.

Qualifications:

- Valid cosmetology license in the state of NY.
- Proven experience as a hairstylist, with a strong portfolio showcasing your work.
- Excellent hairstyling skills, including cutting, coloring, and styling techniques.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage your own business operations.
- Professional and friendly demeanor with a passion for the beauty industry.
- Knowledge of salon software or scheduling tools is preferred.
- Willingness to adhere to salon policies and maintain a clean and professional workspace.

Okay so now, how do you raise your prices once you understand your numbers? Let's dive in:

๐˜ผ๐™ง๐™š ๐™ฎ๐™ค๐™ช 80%+ ๐™—๐™ค๐™ค๐™ ๐™š๐™™ ๐™›๐™ค๐™ง ๐™–๐™ฃ ๐™–๐™ซ๐™š๐™ง๐™–๐™œ๐™š ๐™ค๐™› 3 ๐™ข๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™๐™จ?
YES? Awesome, if your current prices are bringing in at least your minimum required (from above) you can move forward by raising your prices 10% across the board. (If you're closer to 100%+ booked you can raise 20%)

The purpose of this is to bring in the same amount of money as you have been with less clients - yes you will lose some, it's okay!

Once you begin to lose clients, you will begin filling your book with higher paying clients!

No, you're not 80% or more booked on average? You will want to do your price raise based on your Profit + Loss (the numbers above) If they're really far off, it's okay, take it one step at a time. Begin raising your prices slowly enough to begin matching your minimum hourly revenue. We can help you figure out the right number if you need!

4- Service + Value
Create value in your service. Who determines your worth? What if I said it was the client? You can decide to charge over your market-value or demographics before youโ€™ve created value but your growth will take a lot longer and it wonโ€™t be sustainable. What builds value into your service? Experience, education, + effectiveness.

5- Experience
Experience is broken up into three parts. The overall client experience, your experience as a provider, + continued experience.

6- Education
Your base education, advanced education, and business education with direction towards your specialty will help you curate specific and individualized experiences.

7- Branding
Understand the difference between personal brand and professional brand.

8- Expectations + Boundaries
Set yourself boundaries as well as your clients. Your boundaries as a stylist blend with your personal life. What expectations do you have for your clients?
