Food has been part of Salo Afonseca’s professional life since he was 22.

After more than 20 years in the industry, he left the stability of a major food manufacturing company to open Salo Bar & Grill — turning decades of experience into a Brockton restaurant shaped by culture, hospitality, and community pride.

Today, Salo Bar & Grill stands as more than a place to eat. It is a gathering space, a cultural anchor, and a reflection of the immigrant entrepreneurship that continues to shape Brockton’s identity.

When Dr. Ellie Paris opened Dr. Ellie Paris Social Bookstore & Ice Cream Cafe in downtown Brockton, the concept almost immediately caught regional attention.

Part bookstore, part ice cream café, part community gathering space, the business quickly became one of Brockton’s most distinctive new storefronts — drawing coverage from Boston 25, GBH, and WCVB for its mission to champion literacy, connection, and opportunity.

Now, with a second venture, The Grill Basket Express Cultured Kitchen & Bakehouse, expanding her culinary footprint in Dartmouth, Dr. Ellie is proving that a creative business model can do more than fill a storefront. It can create its own lane.

GBYP is proud to welcome Katrice Gerald to our Board of Directors! 👏

Katrice is a People & Culture leader with over a decade of HR and organizational leadership experience, a City of Brockton License Commissioner, and most importantly — a genuine lover of this city and everything it’s becoming.

She brings an infectious energy and people-first spirit that you feel the moment you meet her. We’re not just gaining a board member. We’re gaining a force.

Welcome to the family, Katrice. Brockton is better because of you.

The moment has arrived.

Introducing the inaugural GBYP Freshman Class ’26.

A new class of leaders, builders, creatives, entrepreneurs, educators, advocates, and emerging power players helping define Brockton’s next chapter.

For the first time, Greater Brockton Young Professionals is recognizing a select group of individuals whose work, influence, momentum, and commitment to the city are already shaping what comes next.

The Freshman Class is not a ranking.
It is not a popularity contest.
It is a marker of impact.

This inaugural class represents the people building businesses, creating culture, serving families, shaping institutions, mentoring the next generation, and moving Brockton forward from the inside out.

Through editorial features, photography, video, billboard visibility, and a citywide campaign rollout, GBYP is bringing these stories into full view.

Because Brockton has never lacked talent.

It has only needed more platforms bold enough to recognize that talent early, seriously, and publicly.

Over the next few months, GBYP will release individual honoree features, video interviews, and campaign moments leading up to the Freshman Class Reception in July.

Meet the inaugural class now at the link in bio.

The City is Our Home.

If you’ve seen it around the city, it’s not by accident.

Freshman Class ’26 is already moving through Brockton. Built from the people, the culture, and the energy that make this city what it is.

Monday. May 11th.
The wait is over.

05/01/2026

Brockton, the wait is almost over.

Some people move in silence. Build in silence. Impact in silence.

Not anymore.

Something is coming to Brockton.

GBYP has always been rooted in this city — the culture, the community, the people who keep showing up. Everything we build starts here.

We’ve been working on something. And it’s almost ready.

Stay tuned. đź‘€

Brockton, let’s show up for the culture 🇨🇻⚽

GBYP is excited to help spread the word about Cape Verdean Heritage Night with Boston Legacy Football Club at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, April 29 at 7PM.

This night celebrates the rich Cape Verdean heritage that has helped shape Brockton, our region, and generations of leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, and changemakers. It’s more than a match — it’s culture, pride, and legacy on one of New England’s biggest stages.

🎟️ Tickets purchased through the special link include a limited-edition scarf.

If you know a local Cape Verdean performer, musician, dancer, artist, or creative who should be spotlighted around this incredible night, tag them in the comments, share this post, and help us celebrate the talent that makes our community special.

Let’s pack Gillette and represent the culture the right way 🇨🇻
