PSA: Brocton fire district residents, please keep an eye on the weather this evening. I sat in on a zoom meeting this morning with NWS, the storms are going to be strong and hit us around 7:00 this evening. With that being said, if you hear the tornado siren, that means we are under a tornado warning and you should seek shelter.
Stay safe and be prepared!

Thank you
Chief Key

From Fire Chief Key: Yesterday at 16:49, Brocton Fire was dispatched to the intersection of 1700 and 600 in response to a two-vehicle accident. En route to the station, dispatch advised of four occupants in one vehicle and one in the other vehicle. Brocton1 requested additional personnel from Hume Fire and Horizon Health be dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, after conducting patient assessments, it was determined necessary to dispatch Air Evac and AirLife helicopters to the scene. Brocton Fire cleared the scene and returned to quarters at 18:29. A significant thank you is extended to Hume Fire, Oakland Ambulance, Horizon Ambulance, NEAL Ambulance ,Air Evac, AirLife, Edgar County Sheriff's Department, Illinois State Police, and Illinois Conservation Police.

E.O.W 12/17/25

It is with great sadness we announce the loss of Firefighter Jordan Neill. Jordan was such a huge asset to our department, always eager to learn and willing to help! Jordan was a full time sheriff deputy but still found time to attend meetings, trainings and 90% calls. He will be greatly missed! Brocton Unit 20, thank you for your service! We will take it from here brother!

Yesterday we had the privilege to teach about fire safety to the Shiloh CUSD1 elementary classes. It was great to work with Hume, Metcalf and Newman departments! These men and women that showed up for the kids are AMAZING, we are all volunteers with the departments and took time away from our jobs to work with the kids, truly amazing men and women that protect all of our fire districts! Thank you to Shiloh for having us come up and spend time with the kids, also thank you to First Neighbor Bank (Newman) for providing lunch to the firemen!

🔥 Burn Advisory – Edgar County, Illinois 🔥
Effective Immediately – Until Further Notice
Issued: 09/13/2025:

Due to extreme dryness and ongoing drought conditions throughout Edgar County. Edgar County Fire Chiefs are issuing a Burn Advisory for all residents and visitors.
_____________________________
Open Burning Strongly Discouraged
All forms of open burning, including but not limited to:
• Brush and yard waste burning
• Bonfires or recreational fires
• Agricultural burning
• Burning of trash or debris
…are strongly discouraged at this time due to the increased risk of fire.
_____________________________
Conditions Prompting the Advisory:
• Prolonged lack of rainfall
• Critically low soil moisture and humidity
• Dry vegetation acting as fuel
These conditions can cause fires to ignite easily and spread rapidly, even from small flames or sparks.
_____________________________
What You Can Do:
• Postpone any non-essential burning until conditions improve
• Use extreme caution with grills, fire pits, and outdoor equipment
• Avoid parking vehicles on dry grass
• Keep water sources and fire extinguishers nearby when using outdoor flame tools
_____________________________
In Case of Fire:
If you see a fire, report it immediately by calling 911.
Early reporting can prevent a small fire from becoming a large-scale emergency.

Brocton residents, our tornado siren is back up and working (after 20+years) with the storms coming in this afternoon/evening, be sure to keep an eye on the weather. If you hear the siren today, it will NOT be a test! Be safe!

03/29/2025

Attention Brocton residents, we are currently working on the old tornado siren. Do not be alarmed if you hear it going off. We are in hopes to have it back and working again to help protect our community if there were a tornado in our area. Thank you!

Another successful fish fry this year! Thank you all for coming out and showing your support to the Brocton firemen! We hope you all enjoyed the meal, we want to give a huge thank you to Express Electric! We had no power to our cookers and Bill drove up and got us up and going! Also a huge thank you to all that volunteered their time to help us serve the meal, it was overwhelming how many showed up wanting to lend a helping hand! Thank you all, and see you next year!

All road surfaces within the fire district , including state highways, are very slick. If you must travel take your time and be cautious of other drivers. By the looks of it, we will be getting quite a bit more ice throughout the day.

Though we are not under a ”no burn order”, we encourage the citizens of the BFPD to refrain from burning during these high winds we are having. It doesn’t take long for a fire to get out of hand, even when watching it. Thank you
