This is incredibly exciting news for Vermont’s historical societies! I volunteer at my local historical society and we struggle to find the means, both in time and funds, to properly maintain items in our diverse collection. I look forward to seeing what workshops and opportunities develop out of this IMLS grant here in Vermont.

We are thrilled to announce that we are the recipients of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to develop advanced skills among staff at the mostly all-volunteer historical organizations across the state, particularly with their collections work.

Today is International Women's Day and what better way to mark the day than learning about a few of the many, many lesser known histories of women in the United States. The Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum just released a digital exhibition highlighting the stories of five women important to U.S. history, none of whom, I'm afraid to say, I had heard of before today. It's worth a few minutes to watch the introduction (narrated by the wonderful Rosario Dawson) and explore the stories of these five remarkable women: Elizabeth Keckly, Hazel Fellows, Isabel Morgan, Margaret Knight, and Hisako Hibi.

Hello and welcome to HistoryWeaver! Let me introduce myself. My name is Lindsey and I’ve been a practicing historian for nearly a decade. I have dedicated my professional life to exploring historical questions which I attempt to answer with compelling narratives.

After graduate school, I worked as a historian at Historical Research Associates, Inc. (HRA), one of the country’s oldest and most well-known historical consulting firms. During my eight years at HRA, I expanded and developed my skills in historical research and writing. I initially worked mostly on environmental litigation projects. However, I grew to love any opportunity to work on hyper local histories focused on a specific topic or location. In this vein, I wrote several historic contexts in collaboration with architectural historians and archaeologists in HRA’s Cultural Resources Management (CRM) Division.

Early in 2023, my family decided to make the move from Washington State to my husband’s hometown in Vermont. As a result, I left my work at HRA and founded my own consulting company in my new Vermont home. As HistoryWeaver, LLC, I provide a range of historical consulting services, focused primarily on historical research and writing. I also do copy editing, fact-checking, and property and title research. You can visit my website to learn more: www.historyweaver.us.

When I’m not diving head first into historical rabbit holes, I enjoy baking with my daughter, walking the Vermont woods with camera in hand, gardening, and reading Regency era novels.

I look forward to sharing with you some of the stories I uncover through my work!
