If you lead a hospital unit where staff work alone, “call for help” cannot be the whole response plan.
Create a simple trigger map your team can use under pressure:
• What behavior calls for a buddy response?
• What behavior requires security support?
• Who keeps the patient relationship steady while help arrives?
Practice the map during handoffs, when the team can talk through changing behavior and clear roles, not after an incident has already occurred.
Prepared teams respond faster, communicate better, and help reduce harm while protecting both patients and staff.
