Instant payments are growing but so is ACH. And that's not a contradiction.

RTP and FedNow are built for speed: Urgent transactions, 24/7 availability, real-time settlement. ACH is built for volume: Payroll, recurring billing, direct deposit, high-transaction B2B payments at a fraction of the cost.

The most effective payment strategies don't choose one over the other. They use both, matching the right rail to the right use case.

We broke down where each method fits and how to think about them together:

In today’s fast-paced digital world, the expectation for instant financial transactions is higher than ever. This shift raises the question: How do...

The race to real-time payments isn't just about speed. It's about what happens when systems that used to "sleep" overnight have to stay awake around the clock.

24/7 processing means 24/7 fraud risk. A cyberattack at 2 a.m. on a Sunday carries the same weight as one on a Tuesday afternoon. And in a real-time environment, fraud decisions have to happen in real time too, there's no settlement delay to catch suspicious activity before funds move.

As Stanley Epstein puts it in this piece for Finextra: "The race is no longer simply about faster payments. It is about faster intelligence."

ICHRA is growing fast and so is the complexity of managing premium payments at scale.

Manual processes, delayed reconciliations, and compliance risks are real pain points for administrators trying to keep up. We built our ICHRA premium payment solution specifically to solve those problems: automated payments, instant employee onboarding, real-time tracking, and seamless integration with existing platforms.

Here's why ICHRA administrators choose iStream:

Manual payment processes, delayed reconciliations, and compliance risks create headaches for administrators. That's where iStream steps in.

Most ACH fraud rules have historically focused on unauthorized transactions. Nacha's latest rule targets something harder to catch: transactions that look completely authorized because the victim was coached into making them.

Business email compromise, vendor impersonation, payroll diversion scams. The customer initiates the payment. The bank processes it. And by the time anyone realizes it was fraud, the money is gone.

For the first time, Nacha is requiring banks to actively monitor incoming ACH credits for these "false pretenses" scenarios, not just outgoing transactions. The June 19 deadline extends that responsibility to institutions of every size.

Rule takes effect: From March 20, banks must monitor ACH transfers for unusual activity linked to coached scams. Closing loopholes: The regulation targets false-pretense scams, reducing banks’ ability to deny responsibility when victims authorize transfers. Consumer leverage: Victims can cite Nach...

Every paper check your business sends or receives contains your full bank account number, routing number, name, and signature.

That's a lot of sensitive information moving through the mail, and it's exactly why check fraud remains the second most common form of payment fraud reported by financial institutions, according to the Federal Reserve.

ACH payments move through encrypted digital networks with strict industry controls. The fraud exposure simply isn't comparable.

If your business is still relying heavily on checks, it's worth understanding what the switch to ACH actually looks like, and what you stand to gain.

Processing a paper check can cost $2 or more when you factor in printing, postage, manual handling, and reconciliation.

An ACH transaction? Often just pennies.

That cost gap is one of the main reasons businesses are making the switch, but it's not the only one. Faster settlement, lower fraud exposure, and a better experience for customers are all part of the picture.

We broke down all four reasons in our latest article:

Why does this shift matter?

It’s reshaping how organizations move money, manage risk, and unlock new opportunities. Discover what’s driving the change, and how your business can stay ahead.

Embedded finance has spent years racing to market. Now it's learning to pace itself.

After years of rapid deployment, the "move fast and break things" era of embedded finance is giving way to something more considered. PYMNTS Intelligence finds that the emphasis is shifting from speed of integration to durability of compliance, reliability of infrastructure, and depth of regulatory accountability.

The reason: embedded finance providers are typically governed by the contracts and oversight of sponsor banks, and those banks are now demanding significantly more from their fintech partners.

For ISVs and software platforms building payment capabilities into their products, this maturation is important context. Partnering with the right payments infrastructure matters more than ever because compliance failures in your payment layer can land squarely on the bank behind you.

For gateways looking to stay competitive, ACH is no longer optional.

Integrating ACH unlocks three powerful advantages: lower costs, new revenue streams, and a more resilient, scalable payment infrastructure.

Gateways that embrace ACH can offer more competitive pricing, expand their business models, and future-proof their operations.

ACH is more than a feature, it’s a game-changer for payment gateways looking to lead, not follow.

Big news for business payments: Same Day ACH is about to get more powerful.

A new transaction limit increase is set to take effect in 2027, designed to make Same Day ACH a more viable option for high-value transactions, including tax payments, payroll, and other large disbursements that currently require wire transfers or other rails.

Combined with the 23.6% volume surge Same Day ACH already posted in Q1 2026, this limit increase signals continued confidence in ACH as a core infrastructure for modern business payments.

As the rails expand, so do the opportunities for businesses to move money faster without sacrificing the cost efficiency that makes ACH the preferred choice for B2B payments
