🎄 Christmas Holiday Season Security Awareness Tips 🎄
It’s that time of year again! The holiday season is a special time, but it’s also a time when busy schedules can make people more vulnerable to theft and other crimes. We can never be too careful, too prepared, or too aware. Central Protective Services wishes you a safe, happy, and peaceful holiday season.
đźš— Driving Safety
• Avoid driving alone or at night when possible
• Keep car doors locked and windows closed at all times
• Park in well-lit areas and as close to your destination as possible
• Avoid parking next to vans, trucks with camper shells, or vehicles with tinted windows
• Never leave your vehicle running or leave children unattended
• Keep packages and valuables out of sight (lock them in the trunk)
• Have your keys ready before approaching your vehicle
• Stay alert—take 60 seconds to scan your surroundings
• Ask mall or store security for an es**rt if needed
• Keep a winter breakdown kit in your vehicle (thermal blanket, flashlight, jumper cables, water, tire inflator, flares, kitty litter, and more)
• NEVER drink and drive
🏧 ATM Safety
• Use ATMs located in police stations, malls, or well-lit areas
• Withdraw only the cash you need
• Shield the keypad when entering your PIN
• Do not discard receipts at the ATM
🛍️ Shopping Safety
• Shop during daylight hours when possible
• Dress casually and avoid expensive jewelry
• Carry only necessary cash and cards
• Stay alert to your surroundings—even when rushed
• Avoid overloading yourself with packages
• Be cautious of strangers attempting to distract you
👶 Children’s Safety
• Leave small children with a trusted babysitter when possible
• Teach children to stay close and what to do if separated
• Never allow children to go to restrooms or vehicles alone
• Teach children their full name, address, and phone number
🏠At Home
• Lock doors and windows—even for short trips
• Use timers for indoor and outdoor lights
• Have mail and packages picked up when away
• Keep holiday gifts out of view
• Ensure Christmas trees and decorations are secure and fire-safe
🚪 Strangers at Your Door
• Be cautious of unexpected deliveries
• Verify identification of anyone requesting donations
• Donate only to recognized charities
