Your brand has a name. A framework. A method. Or maybe it’s a program that drives half of your revenue.

Do you own any of it?

Most women business owners I know haven’t filed a single trademark. They’ve built something real and yet they haven’t protected it.

Here’s what trademark attorney Nicole Swarfz of Sprout Law told me:

You don’t need to trademark everything. You need to trademark what you can’t afford to lose.

Your business name. Your podcast name. Your tagline. Start there.

Your logo? It depends. The thing that IS your business is what you need to own.

Your IP makes your brand an asset.

👉 Have you filed for trademark protection for what’s core to your business?

Since 2014, there’s been a physical bell.🔔

Members ring it for wins big and small.

A new client. A book deal. A speaking gig.

But also: I got dressed today. I showed up even though my teenager fell apart this morning. I’m going through a separation and I still came.

That’s what Grace Kraaijvanger, founder of The Hivery, built into her women’s co-working community from day one.

A ritual that says: all of it counts.

This was one of my favorite moments from our full conversation. Watch or listen here 👇

What does it mean to treat your life and work as an artistic practice?

Not a productivity system. Not a growth strategy.

An ongoing creative act where you make something, lose it, and make it again.

I sat down with Grace Kraaijvanger, founder of The Hivery, the San Francisco women’s co-working space,
inspiration lab, and membership community in the San Francisco Bay Area to explore exactly that.

Grace went from professional ballet dancer to tech marketer to founder. And the way she built The Hivery, including what broke it and what rebuilt it, is a masterclass in treating your work like an artist.

Seven slides. Seven lessons. I promise, at least one will land.

Consider this… what’s one idea you’ve been putting on the shelf?

We’re all in a relationship with someone, including ourselves, our friends, our families, our romantic partners. ✨

How can we tap into our bodies to improve those relationships?

Sana Akhand is a New York City-based somatic relationship coach, conscious matchmaker, and tech founder.

Her core belief that you have to regulate before you can relate has become the foundation for everything she’s built: a private coaching practice for couples and individuals, matchmaking dinner parties for singles ready to meet differently, and UNION, an app delivering personalized three-minute somatic practices exactly when people need them most.

Relationships + Business. This was a rich conversation.

What we dug into:

1. The “checking all the boxes” trap. Sana had the career, the marriage, the Manhattan apartment and still felt completely empty. Her grandmother’s death forced one question that shifted her direction.

2. When you suppress your truth, the Universe gets louder. Before Sana told her husband she needed her own space, she had a bad fall that left her bedridden for a month. Her take: when we avoid what we know we need, the Universe finds a way to get our attention.

3. Relationship problems aren’t communication problems, they’re nervous system problems. No amount of “I statements” fixes a triggered nervous system. Emotional patterns live in the body, not the mind.

4. Do it first, then get the validation… not the other way around. There’s a tendency to want other people’s approval before you move forward. We dug into Sana’s approach.

5. Investor outreach. What worked for Sana and what didn’t.

6. Investor pitch feedback. Pitching is challenging. How to mine even an unsuccessful pitch for gold.

7. Solitude is the shortcut from performing to purpose. Ten minutes a day of tuning inward is what keeps Sana from abandoning ship when things are slow. Her word for this practice: rebellious.

Do you believe in creative channeling and conscious co-creation? ✨

Do you sense that you could enhance your creativity, particularly in your business approach?

I recently had an insightful conversation with Writer & Creativity Coach Lindsay MacMillan.

We discussed her latest novel, “The Anti-Marriage Pact,” and explored what it means to live a creative life, emphasizing that life itself is a creative act..

What we dug into:

→ How Lindsay came to writing.
→ Her novels and book of poetry.
→ On getting 200 rejections and sticking with her writing.
→ Lindsay’s (thoughtful) leap from Goldman Sachs to building a business being a creative spark for others.
→ Creative channeling and conscious co-creation.
→ How the idea for “The Anti-Marriage Pact” came to her.
→ Sticking to what she knew was right for her main character EJ in “The Anti-Marriage Pact” and why she took a stand.
→ TEDx talks (sometimes things can be easy)
→ Helping women reconnect with their creativity.

If you’re feeling blocked or are creatively curious, this is for you.

How to stop “chasing shiny objects.”

Your brand archetype is the tool that helps you avoid distraction and stay focused on your goals.

Katerina Simonova-Liggio and I dove deep into this topic (and more) in our recent Substack Live conversation. Kat helps founder-led DTC companies build brands with soul.

This is no small feat, especially now with AI creeping into to much of what see, read, and listen to online.

During our talk, we covered:

→ Brand strategy with soul — why this topic and why now?

→ Brands that stand out aren’t built on better tactics; they’re built on deeper self-knowledge.

→ The importance of knowing the “why” of your brand (or business).

→ The Brand Archetype approach and the Five Pillars.

→ How and why you need to learn to listen to what your body is telling you.

There are so many takeaways from our conversation that you can immediately apply in your business, including a link to the Brand Archetype Exercise (an eye-opener if it’s new to you).

Here are some of the highlights from our talk:

→ Why journaling is having a moment (and why it’s so necessary)

→ Accessing your own innate wisdom

→ Why dopamine is running your life and how to take back control

→ The power of awe, appreciation, and the Like list

→ Laura’s 4x4x4 Method to help you get started with journaling

→ How “The Big Unlock” came into the world

→ Why businesses are getting turned on to journaling

→ Laura’s new nonprofit - EndsWell

→ The reality behind Laura’s shift from PR agency CEO to AllSwell founder and author

This one clip gives is just a sample of the gems Laura dropped in our Substack Live.

You have 60,000 thoughts per day.
80% of them are negative.

Once you realize this, you have the opportunity to make a change.

In my conversation with Watch Her Prosper Founder Ruchi Pinniger, she breaks down her RIR method to work with your thoughts:

✔️Recognize.

✔️ Interrupt.

✔️ Reframe.

Most of the thoughts driving your decisions about money aren’t conscious.

They’re patterns that you picked up in childhood that were reinforced over time.

Now running in the background of your business.

→ how you price
→ how you spend
→ how you react when money comes in (or doesn’t)
You can’t out-strategize a pattern you haven’t identified.

This is the work most female founders skip. And it’s exactly why they stay stuck.

Ruchi’s RIR Method™️ is the antidote to that.

I’ve joined WE ARE THE BOARD. 🎉

A network of senior operators and fractional leaders brought in when the stakes are high and the decisions matter.

This is the kind of room that makes you better.

You get a clearer read on:

→ how businesses are actually being built right now
→ where growth starts to break down
→ and how smart teams are solving for it

It also means I can bring stronger, more integrated support to my clients when the work calls for it.

I’m grateful to be part of this community.

A big thank you to April Uchitel and Christina Glickman.✨

And to Gina Gretchko and Allison Henry Aver for encouraging me to step into it.

Decision Architect working with founder-led businesses navigating growth and complexity.

If you’re working harder than ever in your business
and it’s still not working
this is for you.

Many founders assume the problem is discipline (this was me):

- you need to more (especially what you see everyone else doing)
- you need to be more consistent in doing all the things

But sometimes it’s not.

Sometimes what you’re doing isn’t aligned with who you are and how you’re designed to be in the world.

This is what Allison Roman and I got into in our Substack Live conversation.

She shared that following strategies that don’t match how you’re designed to naturally operate leads to everything taking more effort than it should and often not seeing the result you hope for.

When you know your Human Design you gain the power to stop forcing life and shift to working in ways that fit who you are.

Check out our full conversation here for more to learn more about Human Design (we dug into Type and Strategy) and how to use it to create ease in your business and relationships:
