Amelia was at the frontier of civil aviation during the time when flying was a luxury only few could afford and had the privilege to experience. She captured the hearts of millions of people in America and around the world by taking up the challenge of flying solo around the globe in 193

Amelia Sky Race , the multi-leg female pilots race around the world, is an international teams competition that crowns the best team at the end of the race based on the minimum flying time accumulated. Although the competitive part of the race is the main attraction, two other parts of the race are of enormous importance: the humanitarian program and the educational program.

, on June 18, 1928, Amelia Earhart made history as the first woman to soar across the Atlantic Ocean—albeit as a passenger! Alongside pilot Wilmer Stultz and mechanic Louis Gordon in the iconic Fokker F7 named Friendship, she embarked on this groundbreaking journey. Taking off from Trepassey Bay, Newfoundland on June 17 and landing in Burry Port, Wales the very next day, this flight catapulted Amelia into the limelight, transforming her into an overnight sensation. Her first book, "20 Hours and 40 Minutes: Our Flight in the Friendship," recounts the journey. With newfound fame and fortune, she was determined to break barriers, and she ultimately became the first woman to pilot her own solo Atlantic crossing in 1932. 🌍✈️

Amelia Earhart’s red Lockheed 5B Vega wasn’t just a plane. It was the vessel that turned her into a legend. On May 20, 1932, exactly five years after Charles Lindbergh’s historic solo flight to Paris, Earhart lifted off from Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, and crossed the Atlantic alone.

Did you know Amelia Earhart helped found an organization for female pilots called the Ninety-Nines?

At a time where opportunities for women in aviation were limited, Amelia and 98 other licensed women pilots came together to create a network of pilots that encouraged connection, mentorship, and growth in the field. Membership was immediately open to women after they received their pilots license.

Today there are thousands of Ninety-Nines throughout the world who are professional pilots for airlines, industry and government.

Amelia Earhart completed her historic solo flight from Los Angeles to Mexico City. She was the first person to fly solo between these two cities, following her pioneering solo flight from Hawaii to California in January of the same year.

After landing in Mexico, she continued her journey, completing a solo flight from Mexico City to Newark, New Jersey. She flew her Lockheed 5C Vega, which was nicknamed "Old Bessie"
