Black History Month is an opportunity to celebrate Black artists and technicians, whose presence and talent are essential to our Industry. While Black artists and technicians have been creating world-changing art long before our Industry recognized it, we see some of the hard-won victories reflected in this timeline.

Black History Month is an opportunity for White people of privilege in the Industry to examine all the ways in which we benefit from and uphold systems that hold Whiteness as the standard. We must realize that these “firsts” occurred because up to that point, White people denied Black artists and technicians access.

It’s an opportunity to honor and appreciate the fullness of Black culture, heritage, and history in all its dynamic forms.
