Brooklyn Writers Space

Brooklyn Writers Space Established in 2002 the space served 2000 writers over the years until 2023.

The Brooklyn Writers Space was founded by playwrights Scott Adkins and Erin Courtney in 2002. Inspired by the Writers Room in Manhattan, Erin and Scott have created a place that is free of distractions like noisy coffee shops, cramped apartments, cluttered offices, and phones. The space is a dedicated place where writers are free to focus on the task of writing in a professional, respectful, and q

uiet environment that fosters literary success. Since opening, the Writers Space has served over 1500 writers who have published countless articles, books, dissertations, stage and screen plays, poems, etc.

I wrote my first eight books in coffee shops (FIVE unpublished, three published—RA, WTFH, The Outliers). Most of them in the Park Slope Starbucks where everybody knew my name. Literally. 9/10 hours a day, every day. (The chairs are hard as hell I can tell you that much). I was there so much that when the Park Slope Starbucks planned to close for renovations the manager sat me down to warn me…gently.

I knew then it was time to move on and I did — thank you . But today I find myself between meetings working at a Starbucks in midtown for the day and though I am finding it impossible to concentrate (how did I do it before!) it’s good to be reminded.

Because sometimes where you came is the only thing that can truly light the way forward.

And to anyone out there writing in some coffee shop somewhere today thinking “why the hell am I even doing this” — I don’t know. But I am sure you need to keep on, keeping on. I’ll be here pulling for you.💗

Heather was a member of the Writers Space in the early years and has been an amazing supporter of us and other local businesses. Small businesses are still under immense pressure from the economic effects of the pandemic. The bridges provided by the government are coming to an end and yet our customers are still very much in pandemic hesitancy (for good reason as we experience yet another surge). Please help save Good Wine. Help preserve your neighborhood.

Thank you so much for reading this. You are probably a customer of Good Wine or a friend of… Heather Johnston needs your support for Save Good Wine!
