First, hugs for everyone who has asked about my lil one in the NICU. We are still pushin' forward. Woo lawd, it’s a ride.

While I do kangaroo care with him, I’ve worked with others to visualize more virtual jam sessions to help us fare well in these times. The last session with Black farmers and activated all our senses. We left that session grateful and inspired.

We're moving beyond simply talking about the issues to pouring back into ourselves and plotting our victories.

The next jam session is with Ms. Stacey Abrams. Oh girl, this one's for you. We place such a high importance on Black & Brown maternal experiences. The question is, how do we remain resilient while staying true to the cause?

Let’s “sit” with Stacey for some storytelling and Q&A. I know you’re ZOOM’d out -but, sis, this one is different.

To grab your spot (they are limited) click the link in the bio or head to our website. The registration will guide our conversation.

Keep on keeping on.

Hey hey Y’all, it’s Whitney. Major things to share, including a virtual jam session with a foodie twist and black farmers. Keep reading.

I’m writing this from the NICU and sharing this pic because I love it and remember feeling fully pregnant and strong when shot it.

A month later... boom! Preterm delivery and a sweet 25 weeker. A quick week after that Rona added complexities to how and when I’d care for my preemie.

I’m working through a great deal of emotions and fighting the feeling of defeat. However, during these hours of kangeroo care in the NICU while my husband cares for our 3 fidgety kids, I’m slowly moving forward and allowing myself to simply be.

These moments also solidify my longing to continue with The Renée.

Which brings me to the exciting part. Let’s do a few anti-weathering jam sessions. Virtually of course. The first one is for Durham, NC folks. Why does location matter for a virtual event? Wellllllll we are teaming up with to deliver food boxes containing the freshest of fresh from local black farmers. is developing a lovely recipe for you and we’ll (virtually) cook and laugh and this storm together.

If you are a WOC who has “experienced” pregnancy (that includes a great deal of experiences) this is for you. No cost. DM us. We have space for 5 people before we waitlist. Durham, NC only, for now.

Sending love.

Each jam session has a certain flava to it. This Saturday’s event in NYC was marked by infectious laughter and stories of beating the odds.
These are the faces of sistas doing the work to improve maternal health. Their backgrounds are just as diverse as their life experiences. There was this moment of awe when we realized this group of “strangers” worked through their personal stories and collaboratively identified key problems in order to reach high-level solutions. 💪

Where to next? 🤔

Shoutouts:

Collaborating with made this event the success that it was. We could not have pulled this off with such style In ONLY 2 weeks without y’all.

And to Nikki for caring for the jam session babies while we worked. 🙇🏾‍♀️ You’re right, it takes a village.

Imagine our happy dance when provided the plant therapy.

was the vibey spot we needed. Thank you for the space and yummy food.

Without .parris_ we would not have these beautiful photos to share. Our hearts are full. Thank you.
