Investing in Leadership. Strengthening Our Future.

On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, more than 70 Captains, Battalion Chiefs, division leaders, and management staff from Hernando County Fire Rescue and various Hernando County departments came together for our annual Professional Development Training Session, held at the Hernando County Health Department.

Chief Hasenmeier led the training with discussions focused on the foundations of effective leadership, establishing and meeting expectations, personal accountability, self-discipline, and the importance of maintaining high standards. We were also honored to welcome guest speakers Dr. Eric Hall, President of Pasco-Hernando State College (PHSC), Chuck Burkell, Major Shaun Klucznik, and Chief Billy Goldfeder, who shared valuable perspectives, experiences, and lessons on leadership.

Strong leadership doesn’t happen by chance. It is developed through continuous learning, personal growth, accountability, and a commitment to excellence. At HCFR, we recognize that investing in our personnel is an investment in the future of our organization and the quality of service we provide to our community. By providing opportunities for professional development, we are helping equip both current and future leaders with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to lead effectively and meet the challenges of an evolving fire and emergency services profession.

On Sunday 10/11/2026, HCFR deployed an engine crew as part of a regional strike team to Escambia County supporting Hurricane Isaias response efforts. Captain Tim LaRoche, Driver Engineer Kyle Briscoe and Firemedic Ryan Ward are proudly representing Hernando County Fire Rescue providing 9-1-1 response support out of Escambia County Fire Rescue Station 7. The crew has been responding to numerous different types of calls including fires, carbon monoxide in buildings, traffic crashes, medical calls and a person struck by a tree resulting in a low angle rescue operation. Keep up the great work!
