PAINTED CONCRETE POOLS ...what home sellers/buyers should know! In a market with rising inflation/labor costs ...who has the money to pay for a job twice? Within the year, I recently took on a customer who bought a house with the concrete surface in really poor condition, with the intention of having it remodeled properly. Even though the pool was in the condition that it was, it was still NOT leaking through the shell of the pool (which is the only reason I continued to service it). For this customer, life took a quick turn, and they decided to go into retirement sooner than later; so down sizing/traveling has prompted them to put their house on the market spontaneously. Their advising Realtor suggested they paint the pool in order to help them sell their house quicker (If you are a realtor that suggests this process ...please STOP; STOP wasting peoples time and money). While a PAINTED POOL looks good when it is first done, most people don't understand the havoc it creates on the pool system down the road. With today's prices, it will cost you about $1000.00 more in labor to have a PAINTED POOL prepped properly for an aggregate pool surface (a.k.a Diamond Brite, trademarked). On average, with proper maintenance, a proper aggregate surface will last the homeowner 10-15 years. A PAINTED POOL, even with proper maintenance, will only last about 2 years (3 years, if you are lucky); not many people have the energy (or money) to do this every 2-3 years. And when the paint breaks down, it has the potential to ruin the systems filters and seals in half the time; costing you more money in maintenance. Therefore, a person has to repeat this painted process 6 to 8 times within a 10-15 year period (the time that it takes for 1 proper aggregate surface - you do the math).
