How'd you do this month?

Did forgiveness come easily to you? Or will it take time for you to unload that baggage?

It's important to remember that everyone's path to self-forgiveness is different, and some people carry more baggage than others. Time will surely heal all wounds, but remember the exercise:

"I forgive myself for _____, for the real truth is that _____."

Stay tuned for next month, where we will explore an equally interesting and challenging topic!

Having problems and making mistakes is part of what it means to be human. It's what we do with that baggage we carry that will define how we go about our daily lives.

Are you unpacking it, piece by piece? Are you purging it all at once? Are you still letting it weigh you down? Have you yet to even consider unpacking?

These are questions we should ask ourselves every day. You might be surprised by how much you actually carry.

This book is one I recommend to most of my clients. Profit First is an excellent book for helping entrepreneurs set up their accounting for success. Mike talks about creating buckets of money so that when you need it, it'll be there. His simplistic approach was very uplifting and refreshing to me.

I have a degree in Accounting and Finance, so I know my way around numbers. I can confidently say that this book will help small business owners see how creating accounts for taxes, profit, payroll, etc., will allow for more freedom in your business and life. You'll know how much you have to spend and how to create the clarity and structure needed to run a successful business.

As someone who holds themselves to a very high standard, I know how easy it is to be overly critical. I also know that asking you to forgive yourself for mistakes you make can sound like you're making excuses for sloppy work.

What I've come to learn is that self-forgiveness doesn't have to mean sacrificing your effort or your work ethic. Instead, it means adding a little more positivity to your life so that when mistakes are made, you can move past them quickly.

Holding yourself to a high standard isn't a bad thing, but you also have to give yourself room to breathe.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Whether you celebrate today or not, you might want to check out the story of St. Patrick himself. Not only is it an interesting read, but it's a perfect story to go along with our word of the month.

Self-forgiveness is important not only for ourselves but also for those around us.

I held myself to an unreasonably high standard before learning how to accept and forgive myself after making mistakes. Because of this, I held those around me to the same standard. It made me far less approachable. Employees of mine felt intimidated, and they didn't feel comfortable telling me when they made a mistake.

You see, once I learned how to forgive myself for my own mistakes, it became much easier to sympathize with the people I care about when they make their own.

My fantastic coach, Theresa Campbell, showed me this tool for when I'm taking myself too seriously or judging myself too harshly, and it works WONDERS.

Let me give you an example. I was supposed to send my newsletter to my marketing professionals on a Friday. Well, I found myself still working on it the following Monday... I was beating myself up, saying things like, "You should have met the deadline, no matter what! Why did you focus on X when you should've focused on your newsletter?"

The truth is, these thoughts aren't productive or helpful for me, my marketing professionals, or my audience (you)!

So, I did what my coach taught me... "I forgive myself for missing my Friday deadline, for the truth is that I wasn't inspired to write on Friday, and I had other priorities that needed to be taken care of."

Writing down what I forgive myself for and why has helped me loosen my grip on perfectionism and my grip on others, and you can use this tool too. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!

Today is National 'Get Over It' Day, which I felt perfectly encapsulates what I want to accomplish with our word of the month (forgiveness).

You see, it's incredibly difficult - some might say impossible - to get over anything if you fail to forgive yourself for whatever happened.

So, as a tribute to our word of the month, I want you to pick just one thing that's been weighing you down and practice a little bit of self-forgiveness.

Let's 'Get Over It' together!

Let's reflect a bit...

Think about past experiences, no matter how far back they go. Is there something that's eating away at you? An embarrassing moment?

Maybe you snapped at a coworker or someone that didn't deserve it. Perhaps you failed to meet a deadline or didn't reach a goal.

Confronting these memories and the way they make you feel is the first step towards forgiving yourself and letting go of the weight they carry.

This month we are focusing on a word that I have been playing with my whole adult life: forgiveness. More specifically, the forgiveness of self.

Before playing with self-forgiveness, I beat myself up for not doing everything at the highest level possible. You see, I hold myself to a VERY high standard of excellence. Thus, there isn't much room for failure or adjustment for myself or others.

Often, when we push ourselves too hard to get things done, we don't realize its effect on ourselves and those around us.

Understanding that failing to do something doesn't make YOU a failure is the first step towards living a stress-free life and being happy in your business ventures.

I know there is a lot of mention about “self-care” and “self-love,” but that is all talk to me. Here I am asking you to truly think about yourself with feelings of deep affection and see how this changes the way you treat and talk to yourself.

For me, love means not working weekends unless I choose to, which is very rare. Love for me means incorporating a workout routine that is not only fun but leaves me feeling inspired and ready to take on my day. Love has allowed me to fully lean into a schedule at work that doesn’t drain me and make me lean on outside pleasures to make me feel fulfilled or rejuvenated at the end of the day.
