Moving from a peer to a supervisor isn't easy. I know, because I've done it several times in my career. I look back and wish I knew then what I know now. In a recent blog post, I provided some tips to help make this transition less stressful. Check it out!

Creating a safe work environment isn't just about compliance - it's about protecting your people, your culture, and your business.

As a small business owner or manager, workplace safety should be proactive, not reactive. A few simple practices can make a big difference.

🔹 Limit building access to employees and known guests only. Clear visitor policies reduce risk and help employees feel secure.
🔹 Use sign-in sheets so you know exactly who is in the building and when they entered and exited. Documentation matters.
🔹 Install onsite cameras in appropriate areas to provide visibility and accountability.
🔹 Hold regular safety meetings to discuss concerns, review procedures, and give employees a voice in improving the environment.

Safety isn't about fear - it's about leadership. When managers are intentional about security and communication, employees feel supported and protected. That puts deposits in your trust bank.

If you're unsure whether your current workplace safety practices are strong enough, let's talk. Creating clear processes now prevents bigger problems later.

🚨 My new blog is live! 🚨

Managing employees can easily take a back seat when deadlines, emails, and daily fires take over. But great leadership doesn’t happen by accident — it happens on purpose.

In my latest blog, I share practical strategies for managers to better manage their time and people by intentionally setting aside time each week for employee conversations, observations, and development. When managers make time for their team, performance improves, issues are addressed early, and workplaces become stronger.

If you’re a new (or even seasoned) manager trying to balance tasks with leading people, this one’s for you.

At CourtSide, we help managers lead with confidence — not guesswork.
