🚨 Toxic Fumes: The Silent Workplace Hazard 🚨

Many workplace injuries don’t come from accidents you can see — they come from fumes you can’t see.

In industries like construction, automotive, manufacturing, food service, and cleaning, employees are often exposed to harmful airborne chemicals such as:
• Carbon monoxide
• Solvents and degreasers
• Welding fumes
• Ammonia and bleach vapors
• Exhaust from gas-powered equipment

Even short-term exposure can cause headaches, dizziness, breathing problems, and loss of consciousness. Long-term exposure can lead to serious lung, heart, and neurological damage.

OSHA requires employers to protect workers from airborne hazards. That means:
✔️ Proper ventilation
✔️ Correct storage and labeling of chemicals
✔️ Required respirators when needed
✔️ Employee training on fume hazards
✔️ Air quality monitoring in high-risk environments

Colorado Safety & Compliance helps businesses stay ahead of these risks by:
• Performing workplace air quality assessments
• Identifying hazardous exposure levels
• Training employees on fume safety
• Helping companies meet OSHA requirements

Protecting your team from toxic fumes isn’t optional — it’s part of running a safe, compliant workplace.

🟢 Clean Plate Club & 🔴 Dirty Dish List

🔴 Dirty Dish List: Ollie’s Pub & Grub (Frisco, CO)
Risk Index: 19 → Pass (with corrective actions on site)
Inspectors observed multiple violations, including:
• Employees failed to wash hands between handling raw chicken, donning new gloves, and preparing ready-to-eat food
• Sauces held past the 7-day discard limit without proper date marking
• Wiping cloths left on food prep surfaces instead of sanitizer buckets
• Utensils stored improperly — in soda water, on soiled surfaces, or in sanitizer buckets along the cookline
🟢 Clean Plate Club: The Nomadic Table (Hayden, CO)
Risk Index: 0 → Pass
No violations observed — a clean inspection that reflects proactive compliance and strong food safety culture.
💡 CSC Insight:
Inspections are a lot like cooking — the recipe only works if you follow every step. Skip handwashing or forget date labels, and suddenly the dish doesn’t come out right. The Nomadic Table nailed the recipe with zero violations, while Ollie’s had to adjust a few ingredients mid‑service. When safety is baked into daily routines, inspections become a showcase instead of a scramble.
At CSC, we help Colorado businesses turn compliance into confidence — making safety second nature and inspections stress-free. Big kudos to The Nomadic Table out in Hayden, Colorado for showing us a perfect score in this weeks Clean Plate Club!

🔥 Safety First, Colorado! Frying turkeys is delicious, but dangerous — let’s keep Thanksgiving fire‑free.

🦃 CSC Thanksgiving Safety Reminder
Today is the #1 day for home cooking fires in the U.S. — and turkey fryers are a big reason why. According to the National Fire Protection Association:
• Thanksgiving sees a 388% spike in cooking fires compared to the daily average
• In 2023 alone, 1,446 home cooking fires were reported nationwide on Thanksgiving Day
• Turkey fryers cause dozens of injuries, several deaths, and millions in property damage each year

✅ Turkey Fryer Safety Tips from CSC:
• Always fry outdoors on a stable, non‑flammable surface
• Make sure your turkey is completely thawed and dry before frying
• Never overfill oil — test with water first
• Keep a fire extinguisher nearby and never leave the fryer unattended
• Recycle used cooking oil responsibly after the holiday

💡 At Colorado Safety and Compliance (CSC), we believe safety doesn’t take a holiday. Protect your family, your home, and your feast — because no one wants their Thanksgiving remembered for the wrong reasons.
Stay safe, stay compliant, and enjoy that golden bird responsibly. 🦃🔥

🟢 Best & 🔴 Worst Health Inspection Reports in Colorado – This Week

🔴 Worst: Family Seed Restaurant II (Trinidad, CO)
Risk Index: 90 → Re-Inspection Required
Inspectors observed multiple violations, including:
• No Certified Food Protection Manager on staff during food prep
• Staff skipping handwashing before glove use
• Bare-hand contact with cooked tortillas
• Handwashing sink misused for food prep water
• Raw eggs stored above refried beans (cross-contamination risk)
• Hot-held ground beef at 119°F (below safe 135°F)
• Salsa stored at unsafe cold-holding temps (44°F)
• Missing date marks on salsa, milk, and tomatoes
• Potatoes held past discard time without updated labeling
• No allergen notification for unpackaged foods

🟢 Best: The Timbers (La Veta, CO)
Risk Index: 0 → Pass
The only observation: a handwashing sink lacked paper towels — corrected immediately during inspection. That’s what proactive compliance looks like.

💡 CSC Insight:
These reports show the difference between risk and readiness. Proper training, certified food protection managers, and consistent safety practices keep businesses off the “Worst” list and build customer trust.

At CSC, we help Colorado businesses turn compliance into confidence — making safety second nature and inspections stress-free. Shout out to The Timbers in La Veta CO for scoring a perfect 0 on the risk index!
