Somewhere, someone watched a sitcom and learned that "writing it off" means the thing is free.

It is not free. 😂

A write-off lowers the income you get taxed on. It doesn't mean Uncle Sam mails you a check for that new laptop.

So no, buying a $3,000 espresso machine "for the office" does not magically become free because it's a write-off. You still spent $3,000. You just don't pay tax on that part of your income.

Deductions are great. They're just not a coupon. 🧾
