Dianna's Design Studio-Handcrafted Whimsies

Dianna's Design Studio-Handcrafted Whimsies Retired early from the 9-to-5 and traded an office for a design studio where my creative whims come to life! I guess you could say photography is in my blood.

Now based at Lake McConaughy, serving Western Nebraska & Northeast Colorado—the lake, windmills and sandhills are my inspiration! So, after so much encouragement from friends and family, I have finally decided to go “semi-pro”. I remember my dad taking pictures back in the day when FILM was the only option. My favorite photo he took was a self-portrait of himself in about 1976 playing chess agains

t … himself. A creative idea with a tri-pod, a single click of the photo, only a half turn on the film advance dial and then another single click , then anxiously waiting a week for the picture to be developed to see if it turned out. Things are certainly different today, and so am I. Photography has become my obsession. It has been what I do in my “off hours” to express myself creatively and to freeze frame memories for us to remember later. I have enjoyed learning the art and science of photography on my family and friends, and am confident enough now to branch out and start providing photographer services to others. I believe everyone should have access to quality photographs, so I am committed to keeping my services priced fairly as I continue to learn the trade. I hope you love the photos you see on my page. I would not consider myself a professional-yet, but I am actively working towards that goal. I would love to work with you to stop time, if only for a moment, and capture creative memories to last beyond our lifetimes.

Who Needs Comfort Bags!!!

Well... this whim took me a little longer to get out into the world than I planned. 😄 But sometimes a delay gives you time to rethink, redesign, and make things just a little bit better—and that's exactly what happened! I researched different natural fillers, how well they hold heat and cold, and then started creating the sizes and shapes that I would actually want if I were shopping for them myself.

After some tweaking, design upgrades including removable/washable covers, my handcrafted hot & cold comfort bags are officially in stock and ready to go! ❤️

🐞 Boo Boo Buddies for life's little bumps, bruises, bug bites and ouchies
🌿 Weighted Eye Pillows for a little quiet comfort and relaxation
❤️ Back & Body Comfort Pillows for those bigger areas that need some warmth or cooling comfort

I'll be sharing each of them individually, and each photo will include a description, sizes, blends, pricing, and all the details.

I've also been playing with different natural blends and scents, including lavender, mint, eucalyptus and chamomile—because apparently I can't just make one version of anything. That's probably why they're called whims. 😄

For now, I'm just excited to finally say...

They're made. They're stocked. And this whim is officially ready to leave my She Shed and head out into the world! ❤️

Let me know if you'd like more info on anything!

So thankful for the chance to get behind the camera with this beautiful senior. She is as kind as she is stunning, and her playful spirit made every photo come to life. This session is one I will certainly remember—with some great music and just the right time to keep our momentum going! (Thanks Dallas!🎶💕)
It felt impossible to narrow this session down for some sneak peeks-but here are some of my favs!!

Wishing this incredible young lady all the best on the journey ahead! ✨📸🎓

✨ A Little Sneak Peek at My Newest Whim ✨

One of my latest retirement rabbit holes started with something I've used for years—those old microwave rice bags.

The funny thing is, I use heat and cold therapy packs constantly. They're scattered all over my house, and it's not unusual for me to be warming one up several times a day. Because I rely on them so much, I've always had opinions about what I liked, what I didn't like, and what I wished worked (and smelled) better.

And if I'm being honest, part of this project may have been inspired by my son-in-law. He's spent the last couple years politely tolerating the smell of my well-used (and occasionally overcooked) rice bags whenever they come to visit. A few of his complaints to my daughter about "that smell" eventually made their way back to me. 😆 Since giving up my heat packs was never really an option, I figured maybe it was time to find a better solution.

So I started researching. Then researching some more. I looked into natural fillers, tested different blends, compared how they held heat and cold, and thought about the sizes and shapes I actually reach for most often.

What started as simple curiosity turned into one of those projects that completely grabbed my attention.

The result is a collection of comfort packs that I'm really excited about, including one of my favorite creations so far—something I'm calling Boo Boo Buddies. 🐞

I'll share more soon, but for now I just wanted to give everyone a little peek into what I've been busy creating lately.

Stay tuned... this whim is almost ready to make its full debut. 🌼

✨ Here is My Latest Whim ✨

Handcrafted Whimsy was born from a simple idea for my retirement: spend my time creating whatever inspires me. This little adventure is all about me following my whims and turning them into unique handcrafted creations. Whether it's beadwork like my recent plant wand creations, leatherwork, engraving, resin art, or something completely new, I love having time to learn new techniques and find ways to combine them to create unique pieces that build on one another.

My latest challenge to myself has been learning custom engraving and then I added resin art to my plans…and I'm super excited to share my very first creation—a custom engraved cutting board with a resin accent!

I'm now ready to start taking custom orders and would love the opportunity to create something special for you.

Currently, I can personalize:

🌿 Cutting Boards
🌿 Keychains
🌿 Hats
🌿 Leather Goods
🌿 And more custom engraved creations

I'll be honest—marketing isn't exactly my strong suit. 😅 So if you see something you like, sharing my posts or recommending my little business to friends and family would mean a lot to me!

If you have an idea you'd like personalized, send me a message! I'd love to work with you to create something unique and made just for you.

Thank you for supporting my little whims and following along!

More projects coming soon!!
