2025 ELECTRIC SHOCK DROWNINGS
1. July 20, 2025 Lake Lanier, GA, Young Deer Creek area. Neighbors found the body of a 62 year
old man near a private dock on the lake. Officials say an electrical current was
detected in the water near the dock raising concerns that it may have played a role in
the man’s death. Investigation in progress.
2. July 11 ,2025 Porter County Indiana, Marina Shores marina. The investigation revealed an object
that belonged to a boat owner fell into the water from the dock and began floating
away, according to investigators. Authorities said a 21-year-old voluntarily went into
the water to retrieve the object for its owner. As he swam back to dock he appeared
to be in distress. His 23-year-old brother jumped in to rescue but was also overcome
by electricity in the water. He was pulled to safety. The 21-year-old was later
recovered from the water. Authorities said investigators and a licensed electrician
determined the likely source of the electricity in the water was from a piece of
equipment belonging to a nearby slip holder.
3. June 21,2025 Blue Ridge Lake, Fannin County GA. A 13-year-old boy was electrocuted when
trying to exit the water of a private dock via a metal ladder. Two other boys tried to
rescue him but were shocked themselves, along with another woman who was
hospitalized from the electric shock. A Fannin County official investigated and found
numerous electrical deficiencies, but specifics are not yet known.
