We wanted to share with you a cause that is very near and dear to our hearts. The month of May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month. is a time to come together with the more than 1 million people living with brain tumors and their loved ones.
According to Johns Hopkins - the pioneer institution in brain surgeries - there are more than 120 different kinds of brain tumors, lesions, and cysts. Not all brain tumors are malignant, however, even benign tumors can potentially carry heavy risks and complications such as:
🧠Changes to and loss of mobility
🧠Changes to and loss of vision
🧠Changes to and loss of dexterity
🧠Cognitive impairment
🧠Hearing loss
🧠TBI
🧠Increased risk for seizure
🧠Increased risk for depression and anxiety
🧠Stroke
🧠Even death.
There simply isn't room for anything inside of the head that isn't meant to be there. For this reason, benign tumors are treated the same as malignant ones - surgery and possibly radiation. A brain tumor diagnosis of any kind is absolutely life-changing for the patient, their caretakers, and their loved ones.
So, what can you do?
