The Australian Shepherd Club of America (ASCA) was established as the parent club for the breed in 1957 and incorporated as a non-profit corporation. Today, these programs provide certification and titles in Agility, Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Stockdog, and Tracking as well as recognition to the top Junior Handlers. These programs increased ASCA's role as a service organization to much more t

han a registry. ASCA-registered Aussies can earn titles in every phase of competition as well as entry into ASCA's Hall of Fame which is reserved for outstanding sires, dams, and kennels. ASCA has over 100 Affiliate Clubs internationally conducting sanctioned shows and trials for ASCA registered Aussies. As of January, 2010 there were approximately 165,000 dogs entered in ASCA's stud book. All records of points and titles earned are in ASCA's records. We are proud to be the largest single breed dog registry in North America. Our organization is governed by volunteer Australian Shepherd fanciers elected by the membership and maintains a professional office staff at our central location in Bryan, Texas. ASCA provides an accurate stud book for this unique breed and offers programs in all areas where Aussies excel. ASCA is truly dedicated to preserving the Standard of Excellence.

๐ŸŽ‰ Celebrating 36 Years in Bryan, Texas!

Today marks the anniversary of the opening of the ASCA Business Office in Bryan, Texas, in 1990. For 36 years, the office has served as a home base for ASCA and our members, and we are grateful for all of the staff, volunteers, and members who have been part of that history.

This week, the Business Office is also getting a little attention of its own! Some much-needed maintenance is underway, including fresh paint throughout the office.

Because of the paint fumes, some staff members may be working remotely at times this week. Please rest assured that telephone messages and emails will still reach them electronically, and staff will return calls and respond to messages as promptly as possible.

We appreciate everyone's patience while we give the office a much-needed refresh, and we are happy to celebrate another year of ASCA history in Bryan!

Members planning to qualify for the ASCA Finals are reminded of the following eligibility requirement:

Eligible dogs are ASCA- or LEP-registered Australian Shepherds whose primary owner maintains Full ASCA membership in good standing throughout the Finals qualifying period.

(Note that that all other Finals eligibility requirements for dogs remain the same as published in the program specific rules. LEP-registered dogs cannot qualify for Stockdog Finals.)

To be eligible for the ASCA Finals, the dog's primary owner must maintain a Full ASCA membership in good standing for the entire qualifying period. If a primary owner's membership changes to a Service membership or is not maintained throughout the qualifying period, the dog will not be eligible for that year's Finals.

Please note that obtaining a Full Membership later in the qualifying period, or changing the dog's primary ownership to a Full Member after the qualifying period has begun, does not restore eligibility for that qualifying year.

Membership Lapse Reminder: ASCA's Membership Rules allow Individual and Dual memberships to be renewed retroactively if payment is received within three months of the lapse date. If your membership lapses but is renewed within this retroactive renewal period, your Full Membership will be considered continuous. However, members working toward Finals eligibility are encouraged to renew their memberships before they expire to avoid any uncertainty.

If you have questions about your membership status or Finals eligibility, please contact the ASCA Business Office.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Proposed Rewrite of the ASCA Registry Rules

The ASCA Board of Directors has been reviewing a comprehensive rewrite of the Registry Rules and is now inviting feedback from the membership before final adoption is considered.

The goals of this project are to make the Registry Rules easier to understand and use by:

๐Ÿ”น Reorganizing related rules into a more logical format
๐Ÿ”น Improving clarity and consistency
๐Ÿ”น Removing outdated language, expired provisions, and unnecessary duplication
๐Ÿ”น Updating procedures to reflect current Registry practices
๐Ÿ”น Preserving the intent of existing rules except where specific policy changes are proposed

Each year, the National Specialty catalog includes an In Memoriam section recognizing members of the ASCA community who have passed away during the past year.

We are currently gathering names for this yearโ€™s memorial list. If you know of an ASCA member, volunteer, exhibitor, breeder, Judge, or other member of our community who should be included, please comment here or send their name to [email protected] by August 15.

We appreciate your help in honoring and remembering those who contributed to our community and shared our love for the Australian Shepherd.

Attention ASCA Rally Clubs:

The Rally Committee would like to share the updated wording on signs #227 and #122.

The wording on the new signs more accurately describes the exercise as the signs now read "Diagonal Sidestep" which match the sign's description and correctly states the performance.

The sign descriptions in the rule book and the correct performance of these two signs have not changed.

All clubs hosting rally trials need to replace these two signs; they are available on the web site here:
