It’s been a busy few weeks/months here at Desert Whiskers! Between visits, spending time with all my kitty clients and a few of my longtime doggy friends, social media has taken a bit of a back seat. 🐾

But I have lots of adorable faces I haven’t shared yet, so I’m slowly catching up!

First up, say hello to handsome Oscar! 💙 Just look at those gorgeous blue eyes and that sweet face. I recently had the pleasure of spending some time with this handsome guy.

Welcome to Desert Whiskers, Oscar! 🐱

🐾 Cats Have Jobs Too! 🐾

Since it’s Labor Day, here’s a little feline history for you. Cats have actually been “working” alongside people for centuries!

🐈 Ship cats helped control rodents and protect food supplies during long voyages.

🐈 Barn and working cats have protected grain, feed and other supplies from mice and rats for generations.

🐈 Some cats have even held rather official positions. The United Kingdom has a Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office at 10 Downing Street, a job currently held by Larry the Cat. Yes, he has an actual title. 😂

And here at Desert Whiskers, Milo has appointed himself Spokecat. His responsibilities are somewhat less demanding and mostly involve looking handsome, supervising operations - sleeping on the job- and occasionally appearing in the marketing. 😹

So on Labor Day, here’s a little recognition for the working cats, past and present. 🐾🇺🇸

🍂 Hello, September! 🍂

A new month is here! Although Arizona clearly hasn’t gotten the memo that fall is supposed to mean cooler weather. 😂☀️

As we head into the last few months of 2026, I’m already seeing clients plan ahead for next year. I currently have reservations on my calendar for February, March, and April 2027! 🐾

It’s a great reminder that if you know you have travel plans coming up, booking your cat sitter early is always a good idea. Planning ahead means one less thing to worry about and your cats get to stay happy and comfortable at home with their familiar routine. 🧡🐈

Here’s to a wonderful September, happy cats, pumpkin season 🎃, and hopefully some cooler Arizona mornings in our future! 🍁

💔 Saying Goodbye to Ryder 💔

It feels like I just said goodbye to another friend, and now here we are again. There has been way too many goodbyes this year. 💔

This time, it’s sweet Ryder.

I’ve had the privilege of caring for Ryder for many years, and I’m really going to miss this sweet old man. Ryder was genuinely one of the happiest, gentlest dogs. He loved everyone and was always so happy to see you.

I watched him get older and slow down over the years, but that sweet personality never changed. He was just a genuinely happy dog who loved being around people and enjoyed life.

And Ryder was especially loved in our house too. I probably shouldn’t tell the others, but he may have been Al’s favorite. 🤫❤️

I’m going to miss that sweet gray face, his happy personality, and seeing him greet me at the door.

Ryder, thank you for all the years and all the memories. It was truly a privilege to care for you.

Rest easy, sweet boy. You were very loved and will be very missed. ❤️🐾

Yesterday was a very special day for our family. ❤️

My youngest daughter, Michelle, officially graduated with her BSN! 🎓

I am so incredibly proud of her and everything she has accomplished. And remember that graduation cap we spent pretty much an entire day working on during my self care week? 😂 Here it is officially finished and being put to good use!

Such a wonderful day celebrating our new nurse! ❤️🎓

I received some absolutely devastating news this weekend that Poppy passed away. 💔

At only 5 years old, this beautiful, vibrant, happy ray of sunshine was taken way too soon.

Poppy was ALWAYS such a happy dog. She was funny, she was kind, she was goofy, and she had one of those personalities that just made you smile. To get the news that she is gone is absolutely heartbreaking.

I met Poppy when she was only 4 months old, and I got to spend the next few amazing years with her and her brother Apollo. I have SO many wonderful memories of our time together.

Her dad shared that Poppy suddenly developed neurological issues in early July. Despite receiving extensive care, she continued to decline, and they believe she may have had brain cancer. Everything happened so quickly.

Five years just wasn’t enough. 💔

Poppy will be greatly missed by so many, and I know Apollo is going to miss his sister too.

I put together this video with just a few of my approximately 5,000 pictures of Poppy. 😂❤️ Because apparently being a pet sitter means having more pictures of your clients’ pets than you do of your own family.

I love you, Poppy. You will be missed more than you know. ❤️
