This afternoon Fort Osage Fire had the pleasure of participating in the Great Save Event at Research Medical Center. This annual event brings patients and caregivers together to recognize the incredible efforts that were made to make a difference in a patients life. These are just a few of the stories where First Responder and Medical Providers come together to help those in need.

On the morning of July 4th, 2025, Fort Osage Fire was dispatched mutual aid to assist Independence Fire and AMR on a house fire with multiple victims. Upon arrival, Fort Osage Med 3 was directed to care for a burn victim with serious injuries. The patient was quickly treated and transported to Centerpoint Medical Center ED. The patient was treated and stabilized before being transferred to the Research Medical Center Burn Unit by AMR.

We would like to recognize Firefighter/Paramedic Jeremy Hicks for his excellent care of this patient. Pictured is FF/Medic Hicks with Liz, the patient, who is now out of the hospital and on the road to recovery.

This week is National EMS week. Fort Osage Fire would like to recognize the 30 EMT's and Paramedics that serve our district 24/7. We also recognize the many who have served beginning in November of 1970 when the district placed its first ambulance into service. Today Fort Osage Fire provides 2 staffed ALS capable ambulances along with EMS ready Fire Apparatus to serve the district and it's visitors.

On May 18, 2026, Ordinance 6082 was passed. Under the ordinance, the burning of plastics, rubber, treated wood, garbage, construction debris, furniture, and other household waste is prohibited to help protect air quality, public health, and surrounding communities.
Recreational fires, cooking fires, permitted agricultural burning, and authorized training fires are still allowed so long as they do not create a nuisance or hazard.

International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed annually on May 4th to honor the dedication, courage, and sacrifices of firefighters worldwide. Held on May 4th, which is also St. Florian's Day, the patron saint of firefighters. Established in 1999 following the tragic deaths of five firefighters in Australia, this day is a time to remember those lost in the line of duty and to thank those who continue to protect communities, often in life-threatening conditions. Thank you to all those who have served and continue to serve.

Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters

We invite you to light up red on April 26 - May 3, 2026 to honor the fallen and their families

The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation launched Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters in 2017 to commemorate the Foundation’s 25th anniversary. Held annually during the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, this tribute has grown to include fire departments, families, and communities across the country lighting their homes and buildings in red to honor fallen firefighters.

We invite you to join Fort Osage Fire by lighting your home, fire department, or community building in red during Memorial Weekend as a symbol of support and remembrance.

We did not set the sirens off tonight. That being said our system is set up to do the first setting of the sirens off 1 time if there is a threat of a tornado or radar indicated they will be set off. Our River Bend area of our district borders Clay county which did have a radar indicated tornado. Unfortunately the automatic set up cannot pick and choose which siren(s) to sound so it sounds all of them for 3 minutes and if the threat is still there we can sound any or all of them if necessary. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
