Dr. Jennifer Rich, Ed.D. and Catrice D. Huff, MS Ed from BPS FACE Department was in the booth and ROCKED the mic with information, dropping major nuggets of wisdom for parents of school-aged children. Here are some takeaways:
Acronyms:
FACE = Family and Community Engagement Department
PEL = Parent Engagement Liaisons (You can find them at EVERY BPS ready to advocate for parents and students)
Nuggets of Knowledge:
1) Ask & Advocate- Families are encouraged to ask teachers and administrations questions when you don't feel comfortable about a communication or decision you receive that will impact your student's educational experience.
2) Language Barriers - There are over 60+ languages spoken by students enrolled in BPS. Families have the RIGHT to request a translator (other than the student) to ensure accurate communication.
3) Family Engagement - Starts at home! The task of making sure your students arrives to school everyday is ENGAGEMENT! Let's make sure our students show up ready to learn. The act of simply showing up means THEY ALREADY WON!
