THE SEARCH FOR ROOTS: C.G. JUNG
AND THE TRADITION OF GNOSIS

https://www.academia.edu/video/1MaJQ1?email_video_card=watch-video&pls=RVP

The publication in 2009 of C. G. Jung's "The Red Book: Liber Novus" has initiated a broad reassessment of Jung’s place in cultural history. Among many revelations, the visionary events recorded in the Red Book reveal the foundation of Jung’s complex association with the Western tradition of Gnosis.

This lecture introduces the work by Alfred Ribi, and summarizes the history of Jung's association with Gnostic tradition, which is discussed in the Foreword to the book by Lance Owens (who also edited the book for publication).

Many Thanks to Daniel Wilhelm, Centro Jung de Buenos Aires, for this reel supporting my new book. In addition to furnishing a Spanish trnaslation, he also composed the background music!

A moment of Mantha. Ginsberg was a controversial figure, to be sure. There are areas where we are light years apart and others where there is profound transcendence.

We integrated HOWL into the readings assigned at Brown Summer High School in the summer of ‘90. The students were so moved by “America” that they presented my co-teacher and me with an anthology of their own letters to America on the last day of this practice teaching experience.

A couple of years later, the Beat poet visited Kenyon and met with a group of aspiring writers (including me). Sensing the congestion of ego in the room, he asked us to take a deep breath and look out the window at the brilliant blue sky fluffy clouds in the distance until we felt ourselves diffusing into them.

A few seconds later, the atmosphere in the room lightened and a great conversation followed.

After the session, I had the opportunity to present a copy of the students’ anthology. He was visibly moved and sent a thank you postcard a few months later. Sadly, I have lost the postcard after several moves, but the memory lives on.

And so does the lesson: the space between is pure illusion.
