The Tidy Buffalo

The Tidy Buffalo Hi, I’m Ashley. I started The Tidy Buffalo out of a passion for creating systems that help busy families find calm in the chaos.

I offer a judgment-free, hands-on approach that turns overwhelm into a flow that works for you not against you.

One of my favorite parts of this work and home renovations is the amazing people I get to meet along the way. This is the amazing Jeremy from Kahuna Koatings Inc. 🤍 Loved working with him on our basement project for painting.

Decluttering is a muscle.
The more you practice letting go, the easier it gets.

Start small.
A drawer. A shelf. A pantry.

Try this:
• Keep what you actually use
• Leave breathing room
• Let go of the rest
• OR put the rest in a place for time to tell

More space for what supports your life now.

Kid clothes feel overwhelming because we’re managing too much at once.

Here’s what I do to feel more in control:
• only one size in circulation (think only what fits)
• easy access to a donate and storage bin

Less chaos.
More control.
More breathing room.

I asked about capsule wardrobes and your questions flooded in. So here it is and a peek at mine.

I’ve been doing some version of this for about eight years. Time doesn’t matter but I will say, in busier seasons and life transitions, it’s been a game changer.

It’s not about having less. It’s about reassessing as seasons of life shifts and having enough.

Enough that fits, works, and supports my real life.

Capsules reduce my mental load, help me purchase intentionally, and make mornings easier.

Hoping this helps any questions you may have and feel free to reach out to me if you have any more questions ☺️

My house didn’t get systems because it was always tidy. It got systems because it wasn’t always tidy.

If you’ve ever thought, “I’m just a slob,”
same. But most of the time it’s not laziness nor being a “slob”, it’s life happening and outgrowing the setup / habits we have.

Mess & chaotic seasons show me where I need more support. It’s data. & I love data.

Thank you for being here.
Thank you for encouraging me to be brave.
I hope your mess feels seen, because mine sure does. 🤭

A snapshot from when our home was in transition.

Organizing and making a home isn’t about perfection it’s about creating systems that support you through change.

Little did I know, the biggest transition was me. 🥹

If you’re preparing for a new season or a life change, I’d love to help you create systems that make it feel lighter.

This was a craft cabinet client project and she went all in.

A full declutter, a total overhaul, and a clear goal for less mess and easier resets moving forward.

Decluttering tips for craft spaces:
• Declutter before you organize
• Keep what is actually being reached for, not what you feel guilty about
• One category at a time (stickers, paper, paint, etc.)
• If it doesn’t fit the container, it doesn’t stay

Then we organized with intention:
• Let the cabinet be the container
• Add simple drop zones (not over sorting)
• Give everything a clear, maintainable home

We added simple drop zones, clear homes, and (my favorite part) most of these containers were sourced secondhand from me ♻️

Less mess. Easier resets. Systems that actually support real life with crafty kids.

Someday, I’ll miss this mess.
And I still don’t want to live in chaos. Both can be true.

These photos show my lived in house. Where busyness happens, kids also live in and life is happening.

A messy home isn’t a reflection of broken systems or a lack of organization. For me, tidiness isn’t about perfection it’s about the feeling within the space.

My systems focus on simplicity because that’s where my brain can rest. I love baskets that catch the things, shelves as zones, and clear limits/ boundaries for stuff. If something doesn’t fit in its container, we don’t keep it.

And honestly? If your house gets messy every day, your systems are probably working. That means they’re being used.

I prefer my home to feel tidy because it helps my body feel calm but I also accept that homes will get messy. Daily. Sometimes hourly.

The difference for me is whether the mess feels controllable or out of control.

My personal threshold is this, each room should take no more than five minutes to reset. That tells me I need less stuff, not more motivation.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed with a mess, start with the trash or clear the floor. Stuff all over the floor can signal to your brain that things aren’t safe. That frozen feeling isn’t laziness, it’s a biological response.

Tidy isn’t a look.
Tidy is a feeling.
And homes are meant to be lived in.

First week of the new year and I’m reminded that organizing isn’t about perfection.
It’s about creating space for real life, the busy seasons, the quiet ones, and everything in between.
Supportive systems with no judgment. Just room to breathe.
Here’s to starting the year gently 🤍

Decluttering doesn’t start with getting rid of everything.
It starts with containers and zones.

This shelf is the container.
Each bin is a zone.
If it fits, it stays.
If it doesn’t, it’s a cue.

When you let the space decide how much you keep, decision fatigue disappears.
No perfection required. Just systems that support real life.
