This is the edge quality once the parts are off the table. We love a nice precise part. We can hold 3 thousandths on our cuts which is about the thickness of a human hair.

Cutting 2” thick 6061 aluminum. The thickest material we’ve cut so far was 10-1/2” thick. Our waterjets can cut through any material except tempered glass. Our largest bed size for material is 6’ x 12’. That particular machine is 100,000 psi

I was really nervous about the forecast, getting ready in time and being the same weekend as the Carousel Festival, but it was a wonderful day. Based on some phone calls we’ve had recently, there seems to be some people that have things mixed up. Please read the entire post.

Beechwood is doing well, we are NOT going out of business. I (Casey) am in the process of buying Emily out of Beechwood. She is taking Owl & Rabbit gallery and has moved it to Mebane.

The garden stakes are a Beechwood product, they are staying here. We will go back to selling them at Mother’s Day and Christmas open houses. The Mother’s Day open house is May 2nd here at the shop. We don’t currently have room for a showroom here.

The garden stakes make up less than 1/3 of 1% of our total sales. We do not just make garden stakes nor do we just make cool sculptures, that is just what we showcase. I understand how many people could come to the conclusion that we only make those things. IF we were to stop making them today, it would not impact our bottom line at all. We would continue to grow as we have for years and years.

85% of our business is high precision metal fabrication for every kind of industry you can imagine. We do work for IT, aerospace, automotive, government contracts, pharmaceutical, etc.., the list is quite long. We have 2 lasers, 3 waterjets, 4 press brakes (too much equipment to list here) and some of the best craftspeople in the industry. Our work is extremely diverse including the art side.

I thought I would ride over and get some pictures of these swings we recently made for the Burlington Arboretum on this beautiful day. Thankfully these young ladies were kind enough to let me take a picture of them enjoying one of the swings. Please go out and enjoy this beautiful park and take a moment to swing on the dogwood swing or the oak swing! Hopefully people will enjoy them and want a few more out there. Thank you to both and for adding these to the park they’ve created!

The garden stakes started as Mother’s Day gifts before Beechwood even existed. They grew and took on a life of their own and have been a symbol of growth and new beginnings as the years have passed. As new chapters are starting and is spreading its wings and growing into their new space in Mebane to a thriving downtown, we are excited to see how the gallery flourishes.

As Beechwood has grown and the overhead has as well, it’s been increasingly difficult to be profitable on the garden stakes especially with the amount of detail we love to put into them. In order for both businesses to make the profit (which is obviously necessary to thrive), we have made the difficult decision to no longer sell the garden stakes at the gallery.

We still have some in process and will complete them and any orders that have been placed. At this point, we don’t know whether we will go back to open houses at Mother’s Day and Christmas or whether this is the end of an era, but we will keep you posted. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this decision.
