Join us this Thursday, June 27th from 6–9pm for the opening of “Shapes that Bend”, a collection of paintings by Juli Badics [ ] ✨
Much like the long drives Juli Badics took as a child while spending summers in the Hungarian countryside, passing wild poppy fields and observing shadowy trees, “Shapes That Bend” evokes the wonder of watching the world pass by.
Imbued with nostalgia, Badics’ paintings mirror the warmth of summer blooming with vast worlds of color. In this collection of works Badics utilizes a compact scale to work in a generative approach, each painting speaks to the next – colors and shapes echo across the group. The smaller size allows her to create many worlds built of memories, or perhaps dreams, of familiar places. Together as a group, they evoke a cinematic drive on a warm summer’s night, unfolding from one painting to the next.

Juli Badics is a first generation Hungarian American painter, printmaker, and mixed media artist in the early stages of her career. Badics’ work is heavily influenced by her dual cultural upbringing as she examines the female experience of growing up between two cultures while witnessing generational change, the complexity of identities in traditional spaces, and capturing feelings of nostalgia and belonging.
