A question that was put to Slim this week during Awujo's podcast was,

If you had to pick 3 public figures, real or fictitious, to describe you energetically, professionally, and empathetically, who would they be?

In this clip he shares who represents him empathetically, and I agree. Check it out. 😎

Hi everyone,

Awujo's Podcast has been launched!

Please check out The Awujo Experiment: Holding Class with Slim da Wit, where we'll be discussing Hip Hop as art and how it was born out of the Civil Rights Movement.

The Essential Question for the episode is: If MLK and Tupac were alive today, what would they say?

Before answering the question, we recommend you listen to MLK's Sermon called the Drum Major Instinct and Tupac's Changes. We'd love to know what you think and feel, so please come back here to share.

Episode 1 - If MLK and Tupac were alive today, what would they say?

🌟 Building Your Social Intelligence: A Key to Success 🌟

As the founder of Awujo Consulting, I'm passionate about fostering environments where individuals and teams can thrive. Social intelligence is crucial to personal and professional success. It’s not just about what you say or do, but how you understand and manage your emotions and those of others.

I came across a fantastic list of 20 sentences that can maximize your social intelligence. Here are a few that resonate deeply with our values at Awujo:

1️⃣ Be soft on the person and hard on the problem: Essential for conflict resolution.
2️⃣ Everyone has a lesson to teach you: Embrace continuous learning.
3️⃣ Pause in speaking + eye contact = confidence: Non-verbal cues matter.
4️⃣ Make people feel important with the SHR Method: Seen, Heard, Remembered: We believe in truly valuing every team member.
5️⃣ Praise publicly. Criticize privately: Boosts morale and maintains respect.
6️⃣ Unspoken expectations are premeditated resentments: Clear communication builds trust.
7️⃣ The best networking strategy is a helping others first strategy: Our network grows stronger when we support each other.
8️⃣ Normalize “I don’t know anything about that yet” as a successful answer: Opens the door to learning and collaboration.
9️⃣ “Great leaders create more leaders, not followers.” —Roy T. Bennett: Leadership is about lifting others up.

Reflect on these principles and how they can be applied to your life. Social intelligence is a key component of effective leadership and a thriving workplace culture.

Check out the full list below and let’s continue to create spaces where everyone feels valued and empowered.

Warmest & Best Regards,

Yvette Gibbs

Yesterday, Hattie McDaniel's birthday and her legacy as the first Black person to win an Academy Award was honored by Microsoft, with her image appearing in the Windows search box and a link to her accomplishments. Surprisingly, Google didn’t include Hattie as one of its Doodles for the day.

Rather than noting Google as missing the mark on honoring significant American culture, let’s think about how they can be more inclusive? Hattie McDaniel's journey and history highlight the ongoing need for a revolution in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

As we reflect on Hattie's legacy, it’s important to remember that images matter deeply to our community. As Terrence C. Carson said, ““Images matter. And our images matter to our community, and a lot of times we are so desperate to get the job, and we are so happy to make the money that we don’t really think about what those images are doing and what they present to the community…”

From Stepin Fetchit to Hollywood Shuffle, Black actors have often faced the dilemma of doing what’s necessary for themselves while considering their impact on the culture. Hattie McDaniel’s story is a reminder of the complexities and responsibilities that come with representation.

At Awujo Consulting, we believe that true DEI goes beyond representation—it requires systemic change. Let’s honor Hattie McDaniel by committing to creating environments where everyone can thrive without limitations. Join us in this conversation and share how you’re contributing to the DEI revolution!
