Fines for Texting While Driving: the Senate Law & Public Safety Committee voted 5-0 for this bill, which would increase fines for texting while driving from $100 to $200 for the first offense, second offense is a $400 fine, and a third violation is a $600 fine. Texters could also have their driver’s licenses suspended for 90 days for the third and subsequent offenses, and receive three points on their driving records.
