Very Early War-date Confederate Document for the Troops Who Assaulted Sumter
Confederate Document, 15-1/2’ x 12-1/2” titled, "Morning Report of Troops Stationed on Norther Portion Morris Island Commanded by Brig. Gen. Simon's Provisional Army", 1pp. folio, Head Quarters 1st Brigade, Morris Island, April 17, 1861, and records the count of almost 1600 Confederate troops. Horizontal tape mends
James Simons (1813-79) was a Confederate general in the American Civil War. The speaker of the South Carolina House of Representatives when the war broke out, he was appointed by President Jefferson Davis as the first general officer of the Confederacy. As brigadier general of South Carolina Militia Fourth Infantry Brigade, he led the first attack on Fort Sumter, South Carolina, on April 12, 1861. On April 13, the Union flag was shot down. Confederate gunners ceased fire. The commander of forces on Morris Island, Brigadier General James Simons, sent Colonel Louis T. Wigfall to Fort Sumter to ask if Major Anderson would surrender to General Beauregard.

Original Robert E. Lee's Signed General Order #9, Signed at Appomattox

Manuscript Document Signed, "R.E. Lee, Genl", 8" x 12-1/2", datelined Hd Qrs Army of Northern Virginia, 10th April 1865, on lined blue paper which shows a 5" British watermark, (a Lion beneath a crown). The document has been professionally backed, mending weak folds. This document was signed by Robert E. Lee while he was at Appomattox.
