This is a contract position for a PC deployment technician that will assist with upgrading a customers PC's from Windows 7 to Windows 10 devices. Contract will be 4-6 months. PC experience in a corporate environment required. Please see requirements for additional details.
• Able to lift and carry 50LB
• Knowledge of Active Directory, SCCM, and AD Group Policy
• Work in Network closets, activating wall ports, working with engineering for appropriate VLAN configuration.
• Perform site/department discovery of equipment scoped for refresh, as well as any potential variance from the projected count.
• Record each device found, their location within the department, which applications are installed and still used on the device as per the user using it, any potential mapped drives or outlook mailboxes to be aware of any accessories and special circumstances related to this device.
• Speak with users and understand their specific needs.
• Transfer all user data on old machines to the new replacement devices.
• Notate and keep detailed notes, work with customer staff to place the orders for the needed equipment.
• Installing windows environment on desktops and laptops using the PXE boot environment and in some cases USB boot environment.
• Install windows and manufacturer software, security, and driver updates
• Install applications deemed appropriate by customer IT standards and as requested by the users/department.
• Install and configure drivers and functionality for peripheral devices as needed.
• Perform basic PC and application functionality testing before deployment
• Deploy the new computer and remove the old one. Replace any old and end of life accessories.
• Place the new computer in a safe location on the desk to avoid damage.
• Run any cables/cords under desks, through grommet holes, hidden or cable managed in the best visually appealing way possible for the area.
• Manage any hanging cables in a bundle, as hidden from view as possible, wrapped up and as close to the bottom of the tabletop as possible, without restricting cable flow, causing crimping, or limiting user’s usability of the attached devices.
• Remove old equipment such as PCs, laptops, keyboards/mice, end of life accessories from the environment and retain them for a period of 2 weeks before decommissioning as a back out resilience plan.
• Decommissioning equipment once appropriately aged out of production. This includes but is not limited to opening computers, removing the HDD/SSD, removing from AD and SCCM, placing decommissioned equipment in appropriate storage boxes for shipping, ensuring an organized and complete decommission process, notate and log any changes made.
• Report completed refresh activities to customer staff for back end reporting and project management.
• Perform next day 1:1 Support with users on the machines that have been replaced the day prior. This includes but is not limited to importing user data, ensuring applications launch and function, reading mapped drives, reading shared mailboxes and PST files, test attached peripherals in a live environment, explain any changes and potential next steps as needed.
