What would you want to know before bidding on your own cow?

We think that is a pretty good place to start when you are preparing a consignment!

Tell buyers about age, breeding history, calving experience, registration, disposition and anything else that helps explain what she has actually done.

A useful listing does not need fancy language. It needs good information!

The Scottish Highland Cattle Roundup returns to Mo-Kan Livestock in Butler, Missouri at 1:00 p.m.

We will spend the next several weeks introducing cattle, sharing seller information and helping buyers get a better look before sale day.

A registration paper can tell a buyer quite a bit about an animal but it does not tell them everything!

The Fall Roundup includes registered Highlands, unregistered Highlands, crosses, boutique cattle and specialty cattle because buyers are looking for different things. Some are building registered breeding programs.

Some want good Highlands for their acreage. Some are looking for something very specific.

There is room for all of those conversations here!

What usually keeps someone from consigning cattle?

For some people, it is not knowing whether their cattle are the kind buyers want at an auction. For others, it is paperwork, photos, hauling, or simply never having done it before.

The Roundup was built for more than one kind of seller. You might have one cow ready to move, a group of young cattle, or an entire herd that needs a new direction.

New to buying Highland cattle at auction?

You are 100% welcome at the Roundup!

Begin by reading the full listing for each animal. Pay attention to registration status, age, breeding information, disposition, handling and health details. Then ask questions when something is unclear.

Being new does not mean you are expected to make decisions without help! The Roundup serves experienced cattle producers and people preparing to purchase their first Highlands.

Considering a complete or partial herd dispersal?

Selling a herd often involves more than deciding which cattle will leave.

Buyers need to UNDERSTAND how the group has been managed, which animals have raised calves, HOW they are related and most importantly, WHY the cattle are being offered.

Starting early gives us time to organize that information and present the herd accurately. It also gives potential buyers time to consider individual animals or a larger group before sale day.

Does a Highland have to be registered to sell at the Roundup?

Not at all!!

Registered and unregistered Highland females are both welcome. What matters is entering each animal honestly and providing information that helps buyers understand exactly what is being offered.

Registration status should always be stated clearly. So should age, breeding information, handling and anything else that could affect a buyer’s decision.

There is room here for cattle from established registered programs and practical unregistered herds.

Looking for Highlands or specialty cattle this fall?

The Fall Scottish Highland Cattle Roundup will bring registered Highlands, unregistered Highlands, and selected boutique consignments to Mo-Kan Livestock in Butler, Missouri on October 24th!

Bidding will be available in person and online. Consigned cattle will be introduced as they are accepted, giving buyers time to review the offerings before sale day.

If you want buyers to know more than an animal’s color and age, CONSIGN EARLY!

Advance promotion gives us time to explain what buyers cannot learn from one quick look in the ring such as:

👉 Registration and pedigree
👉 Age and breeding status
👉 Handling and disposition
👉 Calving or production history
👉 Health testing
👉 How the animal has been managed

Photograph show the animal but the listing helps buyers understand what they are considering! Fall consignments are open now for the October 24 Roundup.

Not sure which fall consignment form you need?

Choose the Highland form if you are entering an eligible registered or unregistered Scottish Highland.

Choose the boutique form if you are entering a HighPark, Panlander, HighBelt, other specialty cross or boutique animal.

Complete one form for each animal. This keeps photos, registration information, breeding details and sale descriptions attached to the correct entry.
