I still can’t believe it’s been 28 years since I started my own business. ❤️
It all began with just me, a dream, and a little business called Shawna’s At Your Service. I didn’t really know what I was doing or where this journey would take me. I simply knew that I loved helping people and wanted to make a difference in their lives.
Over the years, that little business has grown and evolved in ways I never could have imagined. About 13 years ago, I renamed it Compassionate Heart Home Services, a name that truly reflects what has always been at the heart of what I do.
Today, I’m incredibly blessed to have seven wonderful people beside me. I call them my helpers, rather than my employees, because that’s truly how I see them—we are a team, and we are here to help. ❤️
For 28 years, my philosophy has remained simple:
Love compassionately.
Lead with kindness.
Meet people where they are.
And remember that everyone has a story.
Every person we have cared for has taught us something. Every family has entrusted us with something precious. And every life we’ve had the privilege of touching has become a part of our story, too.
There have been beautiful seasons, difficult seasons, heartbreak, laughter, loss, growth, and countless moments that reminded me why I started this journey in the first place.
I’m incredibly grateful for every client, every family, every helper who has walked alongside me, and every person who has believed in this little dream that somehow became so much bigger than I ever imagined.
28 years of caring. 28 years of compassion. 28 years of stories, relationships, and lives touched.
And I’m still so grateful to be doing what I love. ❤️
And then there was Maverick. 🐾
My right-hand man… or, more accurately, my furry right paw for almost 10 years. He left me in February, and there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t miss him, my clients do too.
Maverick wasn’t simply my dog. He was part of the work. Part of the team. Part of the love we gave our clients. He had an extraordinary gift for knowing when someone needed a little extra comfort, a gentle nudge, a warm body beside them, or simply a few kisses. He especially loved my clients living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, and they loved him right back.
Some of them are no longer here with us, and I find comfort imagining them all together again. I picture Maverick running to greet them, tail wagging, covering them with kisses, and happily sharing an ice cream cone with all the people he loved so dearly. 🌈🐾🍦 He is surrounded by the souls he brought so much joy to here on earth.
As I walk on October 4th for the Alzheimer Walk. Maverick will be walking with me in my heart. His pawprints are forever part of Compassionate Heart Home Services, and his love will always be part of our story.
His dedication was pawfect.
His love was unconditional.
His kisses were endless.
And the imprint he left on all of us will never fade. 🐾💛

Im humbled and blessed to share that my little business has been chosen at the Alzheimer’s Walk this year as a dedicated group of caregivers that provide loving service to those suffering with Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
