Position Summary- pay based on experience
Cairo Memorials is seeking a hardworking, dependable, and detail-oriented Shop Assistant to help with the production, preparation, and installation of monuments. This position is responsible for assisting with sandblasting operations, applying stencils, setting monuments, and supporting the shop team to ensure quality craftsmanship and timely completion of projects.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Prepare monuments for sandblasting by cleaning and inspecting surfaces.
Apply and adhere stencils accurately to monuments for engraving.
Assist with sandblasting monuments, lettering, and designs while maintaining quality standards.
Remove stencils and clean finished monuments after sandblasting.
Read and accurately use a tape measure for layout, spacing, and positioning of lettering and designs.
Verify measurements and double-check work to ensure precision before production.
Assist with setting monuments in cemeteries, ensuring they are level, secure, and installed according to company standards.
Operate a forklift safely to move monuments, materials, and equipment throughout the shop and job sites.
Safely back and maneuver trailers for loading, unloading, and transporting monuments.
Load, unload, and secure monuments and materials for transportation.
Be willing and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and other environmental conditions while performing monument installations.
Assist with preparing jobs for production and installation.
Keep the shop and work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
Maintain tools, vehicles, trailers, and equipment and report any maintenance needs.
Work closely with the Shop Supervisor and other team members to complete projects efficiently.
Follow all safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
Perform other shop-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure is required.
Ability to safely operate a forklift and back a trailer is required.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, carrying, digging, kneeling, bending, and standing for extended periods.
Must be able and willing to work outdoors in both hot and cold weather conditions.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
Willingness to learn sandblasting techniques and monument production processes.
Dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
Previous construction, manufacturing, landscaping, or fabrication experience is a plus.
Preferred Characteristics
Mechanically inclined and comfortable working with tools and heavy equipment.
Takes pride in producing quality work.
Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious.
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to assist wherever needed.
Comfortable working in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
