Today, we paid tribute to an extraordinary leader and remarkable individual. It was a challenge, but together we persevered. His legacy will be cherished by countless hearts. Through 54 years of dedication, he impacted countless lives, leaving an indelible mark. As a mentor, he guided many; as a guardian, he saved countless lives and property, ensuring his spirit lives on through our collective actions. His devotion to this department and Calhoun Falls was his life's purpose, and for that, we are eternally grateful. Darrell Manning, your departure leaves a void in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing you.

Calhoun Falls Fire Chief Darrell Manning, our sitting Chief, will be honored Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 1400hrs at Calhoun Falls Pentecostal Holiness Church. We request public service entities to join us in his going home service. He won his battle with cancer June 17, 2026 at 1230hrs at Saint Francis Bon Secours, Greenville SC.

We are saddened to announce the loss of a revered member of our department. Darrell Manning served not only as our chief but also as a trusted friend, confidant, and family member to all who served. He embarked on his fire service career 54 years ago, dedicating his life to the department and the community he profoundly cared for. Following the passing of Buddy Hagood, he assumed the role of fire chief in January 2000, serving with distinction for 26 years. During his tenure, he mentored numerous individuals who joined our ranks, guiding multiple generations of firefighters. His departure will be deeply felt by all.

Our team was honored with recognition for Community Risk Reduction efforts in our town just a few hours ago. This prestigious acknowledgment marks our third win since the inception of the program seven years ago. The success is attributed to the tireless efforts of our members, and we look forward to continuing our progress. Congratulations are in order for our members who have worked diligently to educate our community.

This is what we see when we are doing a job. It's hot, it's dangerous, but we do it because we love our community and we do it for free. When a call comes out we drop what we are doing, leave our families, wake up in the middle of the night, fight fire in the sweltering heat, in a lightning storm, even with snow and ice on the ground.
