Rogelio Porquillo was appointed by the late Bishop Paul Locke Granadosin as Local Administrative Pastor of the United Methodist Church at Sumpong, Malaybalay City in 1999 after he retired as District Superintendent of the Mindanao Northeast District which comprises the Island of Leyte, Surigao, and Agusan Provinces he invited hi friends Dr. Leo A. Soriano, Miss Franille Pableo a nurse and Dr. Sha
nnah Jay Rolinda from Davao City to conduct free Medical and Dental clinic here at Sitio Anghel. The team composed of Rev. Porquillo, Miss Corazon Pionso and Miss Ruth Ylaya kindergarten teachers and Deaconess at Malaybalay City and a layman Aniceto Agraan, Pastor Manuel Palafox, District Superintendent Samuel Miguel of North Mindanao District, Pastor Lorenzo Bustamante, Shannah Jay Rolinda and Miss Franille Pableo. In 2003, Rev. Rogelio Porquillo requested Dr. Leo A. Soriano to appoint him as a Missionary to Sitio Anghel. After (1) year of working as Missionary he retired in the Ministry. But continue to work as volunteer missionary to this community up to this time. He organized the community and registered it in the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). This encourage the people to joined the UPPER BALONGKOT SMALL FARMERS ANF FARM WORKERS ASSOCIATION. He solicited to his longtime friend in New Jersey such as United Methodist Church of Hammonton, The First United Methodist Church in Moorestown, Trinity United Methodist church in Hackettstown and Ms. Joan Valdez a former lay member of the Methodist but she is now at Bible Baptist church. Through these churches the Mission here IP’s are now joining the regular church activities. Trinity United Methodist Church sent funds for the livelihood such as; Cattle dispersal, w/c 20 farmers benefited the programs. Hammonton sent funds to support the Alternative Learning System School (ALS). The Moorestown UMC support the feeding programs and Rev. and Mrs. Fred Barrera send funds to purchased bibles and other C.E. Materials for the IP’s and other members of the church. In 2007 Mrs Dania Soriano heard the Missionary Work here and together w/ other members of the WSCS Davao Area visited this place. They were Mrs. Danai Soriano, Mrs. Fidela Bilog, Mrs. Jean de Ocampo, Mrs. Bote, Mrs. Bing Guzman, Mrs. Meriam Mae Barrera, Mrs. Daisy Guerero, Mrs. Mercidita Macadenden and organized the community based primary Health Care Program. There were 18 health volunteer workers, who graduated last October in their 1 year training, Miss Dessie Porquillo directed this program. The community put up a center and named it “Sinanglaya Health Center to serve the community. Dania Soriano donated stethoscope, thermometer, BP apparatus. Mercy Macadenden daughter who is working as nurse in New York, donated Nebulizer, weighing scale, stethoscope and BP tester. The volunteer health workers contributed P1,500 pesos and Mrs. Dania Soriano gave some amount as counterpart to buy medicine. The community enjoy the services of the health workers. Water system was put up to supply the community drinking water as daily used. There is a spring nearby to construct reservoir to serve the people in the community, because some residence used open well and it is not safe to drink, and some cases of diarrhea infected the community experience. The reforestation program is going on. Balongkot creek is the main supplierof water to Barangay Managok. It supplies the farmland. In 1960’s logging companies came in Bukidnon and cut big logs and exported in Japan migrants Christians from Luzon, Visayas and other province of Mindanao came to farm where the area was been log by the logging companies. Today the mountain are now denuded and prone to landslide. And flash flood when rainy seasons came. And it is needed to plant trees to reforest the area. There is a need to open the Alternative Learning Systems (ALS) due to many youth, children and adults who are interested to pursue their studies but cannot afford to enroll in formal education due to poverty, distances of elementary and secondary schools. Last years, 60 learners were enrolled and this 60 learner are now enrolled. Below are the six levels of clauses.
1. Basic Literacy for children – children ages from seven and above years old who have not gone yet to school.
2. Basic Literacy Adult – Adult who have not yet done study, specially IP’s.
3. Elementary Level – children and adult who have started to study, but did not and cannot finished their elementary education.
4. Secondary Level – youth and adults who have attend high school but did not completed their secondary education.
5. Computer Literacy course – youth and adults who have graduated elementary, secondary or college but interest in computer.
6. Livelihood and culinary Arts. Most residence of Sitio Anghel undergone livelihood training such as; soap making (beauty and laundry soap). Undergone Physical therapy that gave them extra income. The IP’s have their own Livelihood by making some native necklace, indigenous bags, crucifix and arm bond, herbal medicine for cough and skin diseases. Mission of the church – to develop the community to become self-reliance, economically sufficient, there will be 3 meals every day, healthy and strong parents can afford to send their children to schools, preserving the environments from destructions, preserving their culture and tradition spiritually nourish which Christ is the foundation of this program. IP’s is the most marginalized sector they are pushed to the wall that nobody care for them, no more land to till, they are nowhere to go, as a Church in this community, the IP’s fine hope for their children and their future. IP’s need to be developed and the church here need the support of the general church in order that this IP’s can join the mainstream of the society. The Sitio Anghel Mission Church was under the Mission of Work of the Managok United Methodist Church last March 21, 2014 of Mortola United Methodist Church the North West Philippine Annual Conference declared Sitio Anghel Mission Church as Local Congreation and named Sitio Angel United Methodist Church. The Mission Church becomes a local congregation by the help of the community of believers through their presence, prayer, support and service. As declared local Church, there is no Pastor who is been appointed by bishop instead mention as to be supply. The Bishop Han Theological Seminary sent Pastor Diosdado Agustin Bustria Jr. as his weekend appointment. Assign Pastor as Mission Church
