Age-related disabilities become more apparent by the age of 65. There are six common disabilities among the elderly. Disabilities are related to seeing, hearing, mobility, cognition, personal care, and independent living. In the US alone, at least 61 million Americans have one of these six disabilities.
It is the equivalent of 1 in 4 adults.
For adults aged 65 years and above, the rate increases to 2 in 5 adults. Within this age group, those who have an increased risk are women and those who have a non-Hispanic American Indian and Alaskan ethnicity.
