Today is officially my last day in the military and my first day as a full-time Iceman!
As I look back on the last 20+ years, I can honestly say joining the military was one of the best decisions I ever made. I have my dad to thank for that, along with his inspirational speech of “You can either join the military or move out of my house.” 😂
About a month later, Joel Neidermeier took me to meet my first recruiter, and six months later I was headed off to boot camp. Looking back, I had no idea how much that decision would change my life. There’s no telling where I’d be today if I hadn’t made it.
The military taught me more than I could ever put into words. I got to travel to countries I probably never would have seen, learn skills I never thought I’d need, and meet some of my best friends along the way. It gave me opportunities, taught me discipline, and helped me accomplish so many goals I had set for myself.
I also want to thank my parents, my wife, and my kids for all the times they had to pick up the slack when I wasn’t around. I know I missed things along the way, and I appreciate the sacrifices y’all made.
It’s crazy to think that something I got talked into doing at 19 years old would end up being such a big part of my life. There were plenty of good days, some bad days, and a whole lot of memories I’ll never forget. But I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.
20+ years later, I’m hanging up the uniform and moving on to the next chapter. I’m proud of my time serving, thankful for everyone I met along the way, and excited to see what the future holds.
Now it’s time to trade military life for ice life full-time! 🧊🇺🇸
