Open mic on October 14 at Moonstone Cellars ran like a Swiss watch. 🎶🍷

Nine performers, including two first-timers, filled the room with lively songs, while Andy Pickar kept the w**e flowing at the bar. Rick Smith kept the show moving and wrapped it up right on time at 8:00, and Steve Finch made everyone sound great at the soundboard.

Tonight’s musicians were Theo Moreno, Bev Praver, David O’Rourke, Kevin Byrne, Ellie Zacks, Peggy Mann, Stan Cooper, Pat Pemberton, and Jason Lopez. Kevin Byrne added harmonica to several songs, David O’Rourke was a treat on his shiny resophonic guitar, and Peggy Mann, visiting from Grand Lake, Colorado, floored the audience.

A big thank-you to everyone who came out to listen and cheer. A supportive crowd makes all the difference, especially for our new performers. Special thanks to Moonstone Cellars for letting us use their beautiful lounge.

We’ll be back next Wednesday, October 21, at 6 PM. Bring a song, bring a friend, or just come enjoy a glass of w**e and some live music. We hope to see you there! 🍂

October 7 Open Mic

First off, how is it October already? This year has flown by. Does anyone else feel that way? They say time goes faster as you get older. Well, let me tell you . . .

Anyway, last night's open mic was another warm and enjoyable evening. As host, Rick Smith got ten musicians on and off the stage, and we wrapped up by 8:06.

We were delighted to have a "youth section," with Cosmo Pemberton and Natalie Edmonds reminding us what open mic is all about. It's a safe stage for getting public exposure, and the Moonstone Cellars audience is always supportive and appreciative. New performers are welcome.

Andy Pickar served w**e with a smile, and Steve Finch manned the audio board to ensure everyone sounded their best.

Performers included Ellie Zacks, Theo Moreno, Jason Lopez, Kevin Byrne, Cosmo Pemberton, Natalie Edmonds, Stan Cooper, Judy Philbin, Pat Pemberton, and Mae Blonski. Several times, we enjoyed collaboration among musicians, always a plus.

We'll do it all again next Wednesday, October 14. Seriously, it's already mid-October? Sheesh.

The September 30 open mic at Moonstone Cellars felt like a goodbye to summer. Our open mics are usually on the first, second and third Wednesdays of each month. When there's a fifth Wednesday, as there was in September, we add one. Many people don't realize that, so the crowd was smaller than usual.

We were also a few musicians short of our usual 10. Rick Smith, as emcee, kept the flow going, and we finished right on our 8:00 PM goal. Everyone sounded great, the vibe was warm, and the w**e was excellent, as always.

Entertainers included Jason Lopez, Ellie Zacks, Stan Cooper, Theo Moreno, Kevin Byrne, Pat Pemberton, and John Lasersohn. We were delighted to welcome two new performers, Don Miller and Cosmo Pemberton. They're welcome back any time.

Andy Pickar manned the w**e bar, and Steve Finch was on point with the audio.

Rick closed the evening with the John Prine song, "Summer's End." It felt appropriate.

All said, it was another great way to spend a Wednesday evening in Cambria. We'll be back on October 7. See you then!

September 16's open mic was electric. The room filled with musicians and audience members, w**e in hand, ready for a great night of live music. They got exactly that.

Moonstone Cellars presented a $2,000 check to Camp Ocean Pines , a nonprofit that aligns with Moonstone Cellars' mission. Musicians and guests collected these funds over the last four months. Scott Hicok represented the camp and later played two amazing songs. Going forward, donations will benefit the Friends of The Cambria Library.

We welcomed both our regulars and some exciting new musicians. Deb Smith opened strong with heartfelt blues—we could have used more time for her. Then Scott Hicok absolutely blew the roof off. (Fair warning: he admitted to being a ringer. Professional musician, and it shows.)

Musicians were: Kevin Byrne, Stan Cooper, Natalie Edmonds, Scott Hicok, Jason Lopez, Jamie Ludwig, Bob McCandless, Bev Praver, Deb Smith, Brian Wright, Wendy Wright, and Ellie Zacks. Rick Smith, our "Musical Airline Traffic Controller," kept everyone landing smoothly and taxiing off on time. We got two people off the wait list on stage and wrapped by 8:03.

Next open mic: September 30.

On September 23 at 6:00 PM, Rick Smith and Ellen Aronson will present "Uncorked and Unfiltered: Songs of Change" https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10166241449353783&set=a.63525103782. It's not a Moonstone Cellars event, but guaranteed to heat things up. W**e and songs will flow freely. Both events are free. Both tend to fill up, so arrive early.

September 9th open mic did not disappoint! Despite unusually high temperatures, the room filled with musicians and guests ready to relax and enjoy the vibe at Moonstone Cellars.

Musicians included:
Jason Lopez, Theo Moreno, Judy Philbin, Garrett Philbin, Natalie Edmonds, Pat Pemberton, Ellie Zacks, Clive Mettrick, Jamie Ludwig, and Deborah Orde.

A last-minute visit by Ryan Letey was the icing on the cake. He blew the roof off.

We were thrilled to welcome Jamie Ludwig for the first time, and the crowd is enamored with young Natalie Edmonds—just four months on guitar and killing it.

Andy Pickar kept the w**e flowing all night, and Steve Finch made sure the audio was always on point.

What a fun open mic we had last night! The cowboy theme was a big hit with both musicians and audience — and we had a packed house to celebrate it!

We heard everything from classic favorites to modern tunes and heartfelt ballads. A special moment came when Candi Pemberton shared a beautiful poem between her husband Pat's songs, adding a lovely lyrical touch to the evening. We were also thrilled to welcome Natalie Edmonds back with her gorgeous new guitar.

And a big thanks to Andy Pickar at the chuckwagon for keeping the w**e flowing, and to Steve Finch at the audio board for making sure the music sounded great all across the range.

The perfect ending came when all the performers gathered on stage together to send the audience home with "Happy Trails" — a fitting wish for everyone leaving.

We'll be back next Wednesday evening, September 9, with no particular theme (though you never know what might inspire us). Please join us for a rootin' tootin' good time!

Saddle up, partners — the open mic is going Western!

On September 2, we're rounding up the songs of the trail, the range, and the long ride home — cowboy ballads, outlaw anthems, campfire classics, and every dusty tune in between. And good news travels fast: the lineup's already full, so we've got a corral full of talent ready to ride.

Which means this one's all about you, the audience. Mosey on in, pour a glass, pull up a chair, and let a full roster of your neighbors play you into a fine evening in our comfy lounge. No cover, no fuss — just great music, good w**e, and the best company in Cambria. 🍷
